  1. FOSSIL GROUPS Intro to all the fossil groups included on wiki.

  2. Arthropods • Trilobites are a group of arthropod. • Present-day spiders, grasshoppers, and cockroaches are all arthropods. • Arthropods are diverse for their three lobes

  3. Brachiopods • Brachiopods are not symmetrical like all mollusks • Brachiopods filter feed plankton and other organisms. • Brachiopods attach themselves to the sea floor with a pedicle.

  4. Bryozoans • Bryozoans are referred to as moss animals. • Bryozoans long ago lived in colonies with other bryozoans. • Bryozoans live in marine and freshwater environments.

  5. Corals • Corals flourished during the Devonian Period. • Corals are in a family with jellyfish and sea anemones. • Corals have a polyp, mouth, tentacles, and a skeleton.

  6. Dinosaurs • Dinosaurs lived during the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous Period. • The name “dinosaur” was created by Sir Richard Owen • There are two types of dinosaurs, saurischian and ornithischian.

  7. Echinoderms • Echinoderms include starfish, brittle stars, sea cucumbers, sand dollars, and sea urchins. • Echinoderms are strictly solitary organisms. • Echinoderm skeletons are made of individual plates made of single crystals.

  8. Fish • Fish are the most successful group of vertebrates. • Fish flourished in the Devonian Period, also known as “the age of fishes” • Early fish had huge armor plating.

  9. Mammals • Mammals are vertebrates that are nourished by their mother’s milk. • Mammals appeared on earth in the Triassic Period. • Mammals, like birds, are warm-blooded.
