Installation Guide for Silca Grate™: Materials, Tools, and Steps for Success

  1. Ground Application • Using Silca GrateTM.

  2. Planning Materials:Tools: • Sod ripper (shovel) • Tamper (hand or power) • Level • Wheel barrel • Rake • Broom • Garden hose • Leaf blower or wet and dryvacuum (blower) forpolymeric sand application • Hammer (dead blow) • Circular saw or hand saw • Silca GratesTM • T-locks • Limestone #8 • Geotextile blanket • Paver Edging  (if desired) • Glue • Natural stone, slate, brick, pavers • Polymeric sand (if desired)

  3. Preparation • Paint lines or use a garden hose to mark layout on ground.

  4. Construction • Cut sod along perimeter of painted lines or garden hose.

  5. Construction • Remove sod and all top soil.

  6. Construction • Add a minimum of 1” of #8 limestone as a leveling medium. • Tamp limestone to compact.

  7. Construction • Install Geotextile blanket over limestone bed.

  8. Construction • Install SilcaGratesTMon top of the Geotextile blanket.

  9. Construction • Secure Silca GratesTMtogether using T-locks using multi-purpose plumbers glue, ABS glue, or premium construction adhesive.

  10. Construction • If you are going to use polymeric sand around your bricks, pavers, or stones install another Geotextile blanket on top of the installed Silca GratesTM.

  11. Construction • Install bricks, pavers, and/or stone to your desired layout.

  12. Fill All Joints of Decking Material with Polymeric Sand* *See next page for polymeric sand application tips.

  13. Construction – Polymeric Sand Application Tips • Check weather forecast to allow for 12 hours of curing time without precipitation. • Pour Polymeric sand into all joints from bag. • Use broom to ensure all joints are filled with sand. • Excess sand on the surface of the decking materialcan be removed using a wet/dry vacuum or leaf blowerLIGHTLY. Be sure all joints remain filled with sand. • Lightly mist polymeric sand and entire deck materialsurface using a garden hose or mister. Be sure all joints are saturated. • Repeat misting 3 times.
