Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) Information Air Force AOR Support all Air Force/COCOM commanders Current Medical Situation AFMS is resourced to care for DoD beneficiaries/missions Stability operations is a new field and resource programming is just now underway during transition resources are dual-tasked Active Missions Health Service Support to Air Force (and Sister Service) missions Security, Stability, Transition, and Reconstruction Operations Current Capabilities Basic equipment pkg is the EMEDS modular field hospital system Personnel deployed in modular increments by expertise Partnerships Sister Services, regional Component SG office affiliations (ad hoc) Support all Air Force/COCOM commanders with regional, cultural, and operational expertise Support all Air Force/COCOM commanders with regional, cultural, and operational expertise

AFMS Priorities (As They Relate to HA/DR) Support USAF/COCOM leadership priorities/missions while maintaining optimal home station healthcare (dual mission) Principle AF support to HA/DR-type missions Deployed support of GWOT activities (PRTs, ETTs, MEDCAPs) Uses resources intrinsic to deployed communication assets Cell phones, LMRs internally, VHF/UHF radios Disaster Response (acute events) Plans based on scenario, but assumes no local support SAT phones, deployed combat comm assets Security Cooperation (Nation Building) Plans for use of host nation resources when available Cell phones. LMRs, land-lines for long distance, satellite prn Modernization resources/efforts AFMS priorities/requirements

    4. Critical Success Factors for Technology Solutions Define requirements for the various mission types Capitalize on existing infrastructure when possible Plan for most likely scenarios for resourcing, but ensure force protection assets always available Ensure proposals are capable of sustainment in austere areas Consider telemedicine/reach-back for longer-term operations Explore solution options for mission requirements Look at enhancing existing assets in current DoD inventory Off-the-shelf technologies from civilian sector Resources follow requirements (doctrine/policy) Modernization (SGR) branch needs to be a primary POC Efforts with individual units are not sustainable SGR is the primary liaison for both civilian and USG partnerships in technology
