  2. ONOMATOPOEIA • Words that imitate the sound they are naming • BUZZ • OR sounds that imitate another sound • “The silken, sad, uncertain, rustling of • each purple curtain . . .” • (purple curtain is also an example of assonance)

  3. Hiccups Dear Hiccups, You’re the enemy of my mouth and throat. You’re the worst thing that could ever- hic- happen! If you ever should disturb me again, I shall toss you out of my vocal chords. You’re like hail on an angry alligator. So, catch my drift, dear hiccups-hic- and get far, far away. Get out-hic-DEAR, AWFUL HICCUPS! -hic- Jennifer Nussinow

  4. Onomatopoeia • Onomatopoeia is the use of words that imitate sounds. • Wham! Splat! Pow! I am in trouble now!

  5. Yeeeeee Ahhhhhhhh Swish swish swish Chug chug chug!! Glippp Gluppp Gluppp

  6. ALLITERATION • Consonant sounds repeated at the beginnings of words • If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, how many pickled peppers did Peter Piper pick?

  7. Alliteration begins with the same letter and sound! • Alliteration is used to make writing and reading… • MORE INTERESTING!

  8. Hilarious hounds have hopes of happy holidays!

  9. Here is another example using the word SNOW: • Snow sends shivers up Sara’s spine.

  11. Alliteration • Alliteration uses the same beginning word sounds over and over, like a tongue twister. • My beautiful bubbles burst and then, • I simply blow some more again. • The setting sun slipped slowly down, • Making room for the milky moon.

  12. Haiku A poem where there are 5 syllables in the 1st line 7 in the second line 5 in the 3rd line.
