  1. I will be successful if... by Frida Huerta

  2. One of my goals is that I'll manage my sleeping time by resting at least 7 to 8 hours a day from ten-thirty at night to six in the morning starting Friday. I'll be able to do this if I don't watch any TV at night. I'm going to sleep in my dorm and on the weekends at my house. Why? Having enough sleep is very important because if you don't relax you will be stressed then it can lead to exhaustion and finally cause an illness. (pg.84) Goal #1

  3. I am going to handle stress by doing yoga starting in Saturday at Mr.Neighbor's class in the grass area and keep the routine for every Saturday. Yoga teaches you how to stay balanced and calmed. Why? The reason for this is because stress keeps you from reaching a goal and makes you sick if you are stressed most of the time. (pg.81) Goal #2

  4. I will build muscle strength in my exercise and nutrition class. Every Monday through Friday from one to four I will run or lift weights or do any body exercises and this is going to help me build more strength. For example, we do crunches or sometimes run for a limit of time in Mr.Neighbor's class. Why? This is good because it reduces anxiety, depression and it increases your self-confidence. (pg.127) Goal #3

  5. Another goal I have in mind is to prevent diabetes because my mom has this disease right now. I want to be healthy because maybe I can have it from her genes. A balanced meal and also not to be exposed to the sun as much is going to help me. Starting Monday and every weekday I am going to start running and doing exercises for my whole body when we are outside in the fresh air. Also, I will learn which foods are healthy and which are bad to have a balanced meal to eat in the cafeteria. Why? This is a healthy goal because I never want to have a diabetic coma which causes lose of consciousness (pg.335) Goal #4    

  6. Another goal I have in mind is that I will make positive decisions in life and I'll do this every single day everywhere I go especially in my health class. First of all, I am going to have a better attitude towards others because it's going to help the way I think. I am going to try my best in making the best decisions on my own and let no one else influence them. The good attitude is going to help me accomplish my goals. Why? Because of this you will have control over the number of stress in your life and it eliminates the stress. During stress it builds up tension and that's bad for your health. (pg.83) Goal #5

  7. I want to prevent any type of heart disease, and be more physically active. Some of the things I am planning to do is to change my lifestyle eating habits and exercises. I will start by eating less sugars like candy or chips and run or walk for at least 30min every day. I am going to start my routine this Friday at the SDSU University's school campus. Why? I want to do this because a heart disease leads to death. (pg:345) Goal #6

  8. I want, and will maintain the optimal weight I have right now by exercising everyday and taking care of what I eat with the food and exercise journal they gave us in my exercise and nutrition classroom. Taking care of myself while I can is very important to me. Why? If you are overweight there is a higher risk that you can get a disease. (pg.197) Goal #7

  9. I will exercise to have better cardiovascular endurance by practicing with running more often for four days a week. For example,every Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,and Friday in my nutrition class. Having a good cardio helps you be more physically fit and by this you can achieve to be even better at sports. Why? This helps you be more flexible and it's the ability of the joints to move through their full range of motion. (pg:129) Goal #8

  10. I want to build a high self-esteem and not get pressured by others when I make my own choices or opinions. I am going to try to do this every single day and at any place I go no matter where I am. First of all, I am going to be confident in myself and care more about what I think than what others think of me. Also to make positive decisions is something I can do to increase my self-esteem. Why? My reason for this is because stress is caused by how you perceive a new potentially threatening situation.(pg:86) Goal #9

  11. I will start to eat food that's healthy for my body at breakfast,lunch,and dinner. I'll get two fruits or vegetables at breakfast,three at lunch,and finally three more at dinner at the SDSU cafeteria. First, I am going to start to eat eight fruits or vegetables until I get used to eating them daily, and be a healthier person. Why? Eating healthier changes you behavior in a positive way and it can make changes.(pg.199) Goal #10

  12. I will compromise with my sister so we have no arguments. When I go back home on Saturday I will propose to her to each divide the chores,like I'll clean the upstairs floor and she cleans downstairs. I am willing to solve any problems or disagreements we have without arguing or fighting. Why? I want to solve these problems because since we are family our relationships are more powerful,and they influence our emotions and help shake our character.(pg.418) Goal #11

  13. I will never do drugs like tobacco. Never, no matter where I am the place doesn't matter to me. I learned many things from other experiences. For example that some of my uncles died because of smoking,and whenever I think of this it makes me think things twice even tough I never would do that. I think about it and I just don't want to finish my life like that. Why? Since a cigarette has a lot of carcinogen chemicals it causes cancer in your body.(pg.264) Goal #12

  14. Even though there is a lot of media in TV or on the radio I will not get influenced at any time. I will ask someone that is a specialist in nutrition for facts about foods because in commercials they just want to make you buy their products so they don't always say the truth. I learned that even though some things look very tasty and delicious to eat it is bad for your health. I will just choose better foods that are healthier for me. Some example of media being bad is that they can say milk makes you loose weight , but the truth is that they are lying and just saying that so others buy their products. Why? Making a good choice is going to teach you more life skills and it will help you improve the six components of health.(pg.26) Goal #13

  15. I will not drink alcohol beverages in my life especially when I'm under 21 years old. To maintain this goal I will never get pressured by anyone, not even my friends. Also, I'll make positive decisions that I know I'm never going to regret making. I always think what are some of the consequences that can happen,and just because of alcohol that  can ruin your life in any moment. Why? The reason of this goal is because it's a disease that causes someone to lose control and it affects family ,and society.(pg:247,250-251) Goal #14 First That happens when you drink After you decide not to drink!

  16. I will not do any sexual activity because I want to be healthy, and not be in any risk of an STD. Whenever I feel pressured by someone I will make a decision, think about the consequences it can do and this will make me deny any sexual activity no matter in what place I am at. I learned how to cope with peer pressure in my health class. I am going to have abstinence until I am physically and mentally ready, and for me that is marriage because hopefully that is the right person.  Why? One of the reasons of why I want to have abstinence is because of the STD's. It's an infectious disease that spreads by sexual contact and can result in pregnancy. All of the STD's are harmful for you,and you can get scared by it and never forget this.(pg.461) Goal #15

  17. I want to prevent any type of cancer starting right now, at my teen years until I get really old and I become 120 years old because that is how old we are all supposed to live. My grandma had cancer, and I noticed that she suffered from it and that made me feel sad. I wouldn't want that to happen to me or others. To prevent this I'll never smoke, also I will eat fruits and vegetables more often and have a better diet. Another thing, is that I will exercise, get medical checkups, and protect my skin. Why? The reason of why I want to prevent any type of cancer is because I don't want to feel tired,week or, energetic, and spend less time and money in the doctor. I want to be happy and spend time with family.(pg:351) Goal # 16

  18. I want to build great relationships with other people, and make new friends. I'll be more expressive and try to start conversations with others. I am going to try this every time we eat in the cafeteria which is at breakfast,lunch, and dinner.  Why? My reason for this is because the teen relationships are important because you form your own identity. Also, good relationships develop into a positive aspect.(pg:456-457) Goal # 17

  19. I will start to cope with loss because right now I don't really show my emotions. That is bad to my health because I keep my feelings to myself like whenever I feel sad, happy, angry, stressed, or disappointment I never tell anyone. From now on I will talk things, and share my emotions with my parents, sister, or someone related that I feel comfortable talking to and that I can trust.  Why? It is bad for you to keep your feeling to yourself because it can cause stress, and develop tension, headaches, increase blood pressure, and that is when you start to get sick.(pg:89) Goal #18

  20. I will make myself goals and do everything I need to achieve them because I know I can do better at some things. I am going to write myself a goal once a week, like right now in my health class I already wrote twenty goals. One of my greatest goal is to graduate a University,get an excellent career that I am interested in, and to help my parents be healthy. Every time I had free time or nothing else to do I will write them at that time in a place it's very quiet and no one interrupts my thoughts. Why? The reason of why I want to write down goals is because a goal is something that you work hard toward, and hope to achieve. Another thing, is that they are directions for your life.(pg:38) Goal #19

  21. My final goal is that I want to keep my reproductive system healthy and active. Some ways I can do this is by eating healthy foods that have vitamin, and minerals in them. Every time I have a meal  I'll at least include 2-3 fruits or vegetables. Physical activity is another way I can keep my reproductive system active. For example, I can run or swim in the Upward Bound program because in our free time we can go to the pool or the field. Why? I want to prevent problems like vaginal irritation,infertility, and re leaving menstrual cramps. It is going to feel less painful.(pg:441) Goal #20

  22. Health! For me health before wasn't as important until I learned more about it. Thanks to Mrs.Radwick I learned the six components of health,the twenty strategies and the peg list. She taught us how to remember a lot of things in just a couple of weeks and prevent us from getting any type of disease before it was too late. I also build up self esteem because we did role plays in front of the whole classroom. Also, I learned how to take care of myself by knowing what to eat and that I need to do physical activity. Before the class started we took a pretest to see how much we learned and now I now more than the beginning. Health is something everybody should consider taking care of because obesity is the #2 preventable cause of death according to a video we saw in Mr.Neighbor's class.
