ECUADOR 101 Cayambe o 0 Latitude Cotapaxi Chimborazo Capital: Quito Major Port: Guayaquil Andes Peaks Currency: US Dollar Major Religion: Catholic Avg Mo Income: $253 We are not the only ones working in Ecuador, there is a coalition of Churches of Christ that work in Ecuador under the Operation Ecuador Umbrella. As a matter of fact we use one of the facilities built by operation Ecuador the is the Bellevue Camp.

OperationEcuadorUmbrella Quito School Of Biblical Studies (QSOBS) Cayambe Christian Center (Camp Bellevue) Hacienda Of Hope (Children’s Home) The Quito Biblical School graduates about 40 students per year about 30% of those graduates are provided full support by Operation Ecuador Sponsors to go in groups of families to different cities in Ecuador an establish congregations of the Lord’s Church. Camp Bellevue operates year around as camp facilities for retreats and after school programs. They have built a clinic facility that will be in operation soon with the support of the brotherhood. The Hacienda of Hope is an orphanage run by Jerry and Patricia Snyder they currently have four families of ten children each, they are continuing t build to this facility to include a full elementary facility for the children.

We had a midweek visit by brother Kent Marcum he stopped by to see his grand kids. This young man got to take advantage of a last minute opening Kent had and now Juan Pablo is in the 3 year program.

  8. 2008 Goals • Accomplish Christian Center projects • Conduct Cayambe church of Christ community outreach • Conduct Ecuador churches of Christ Youth Camp • Train Ecuador leadership and staff • Take smaller U.S. staff • Utilize new study curriculum

Christian Center projects The camp facility is located on 25 acres of beautiful wooded areas, we were able to begin work the next day after our arrival, everything from cleaning the baptistery and grounds--to cutting down trees to facilitate a line of sight for a wi-fi antenna. Our first few days are spent acclimatizing to altitude (about 10,000 feet) and working to prepare for campers arrival on Sunday.

  10. Conduct Cayambe church of Christ community outreach The Cayambe Church of Christ got us a permit to use the town park square for us to have a concert while members of their congregation distributed church literature.

Pre-Camp Teambuilding The composition of our US team was as followed we had 5 people from Montgomery, 2 from Niceville and 11 from Fort Walton Beach, because all our coordination with the Quito South congregation is done over the phone or email, it is important for our team and theirs to get to know one another better and we took Saturday as a team building day, we all got to know each other better and build the unity we needed before the campers show up.

  12. Where are the campers? ¿Donde estan los campistas After everything is ready and we have exercise our different task for camper registration all we can due is wait for the buses to arrive.

  13. Here we go! Aqui Vamos! Once the kids arrive is going 90 to nothing until everyone has dormitory, bed, classes, and workshops assignments for all two hundred people at the camp for the week.

  14. Camp Snapshot • 14 churches of Christ represented • 161 Campers in attendance • Only 41% of Campers already baptized • Ages attending 12-20 (average age = 15)

  15. Camp Time • 2.5 hours per day in Worship • 2 hours per day in Bible study • 1.5 hours per day in Devotionals • 2 hours for sports/games • 2 hours for workshops

  16. Our FOCUS… • …building relationships… We have only one week to share with the kids, so we spend most of our time, building a relationship with them. We have to reach out to each one and ensure that we are making individual connections to show Jesus to them. We do all this to show them how to build their own relationship with God. And at this time, the following slides reflect a few of our team member experiences from this trip. I hope you can gather from their photos how God uses each one of us to do his will.

  25. After nine years at this, we made a significant change in the style of curriculum. These children traditionally study by lecture with many written assignments and memory work. This year we incorporated a number of practical exercises that required the kids to actively participate, and the one you see demonstrated here turned out to be extremely powerful. It took a clean slate, our lives, and showed them what we look like to God when we sin, with the food items that come into our lives and make us filthy in God’s eyes.

  26. And even more powerful is how the only thing that can bring us back into the presence of God is through the blood of Jesus Christ, we accept him and our name is written in the book of Life.

  28. Other Great Works! This year we took 21-clothing/shoe suitcases donated. About one ton distributed at the camp and Hacienda of Hope. This is yet another way that they kids know we love them and want to take care of some dire physical needs that exist among the churches.

Harvest • 39 Baptisms at the camp • 2 more baptisms Sunday following camp • Follow-up curriculum sent with each new Christian Ecuador brothers put together a 40 day follow-up study for each new Christian. Each congregation was sent a letter with the names of the new Christian’s and encouraged them to work through the material to help the new babes in Christ grow in truth and spirit.
