  2. Soul music originated in the United States in the 1950s and early 1960s. • It combined African American gospel music, rhythm and blues, doo-wop and often jazz. It became popular for dancing and listening in the United States ,where music was influential during the period of the civil rights movement. • Often consist of instruments such as Electric guitar, Bass guitar, piano, Hammond organ, drums, a horn section, keyboard, and clavinet. • There are many different types of Soul music, including Southern Soul, Neo-Soul and Psychedelic Soul (which paved the way for Funk music in the 1960s).   3. Aretha Louise Franklin was born March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee. • Franklin began her career singing gospel at her church as a child. Then in 1956 she was recording for Columbia Records and due to her success, signing to Atlantic Records in 1967. • Success with songs such as "Respect", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and "Think“, helped her to gain the title The Queen of Soul by the end of the 1960s decade. • In 1987, Franklin was the first female performer inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She was inducted to the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005, becoming the second female performer to be honored after Madonna. • Aretha has won a total of 18 Grammy Awards and is one of the best-selling female artists of all time, having sold over 75 million records worldwide.   4. James Joseph Brown, Jr. was born May 3, 1933 in Barnwell, South Carolina and died December 25, 2006. He is one of the founding fathers of funk music and he is often referred to as "The Godfather of Soul“. • he began his career Joining an R&B vocal group The Famous Flames, he was the group's lead singer. • He Came to national public attention with the late 1950s ballads "Please, Please, Please" and "Try Me“. He also had a backing band, sometimes known as the James Brown Band or the James Brown Orchestra. • By the early 1970s, Brown had fully established the funk sound after the formation of The J.B.'s with records such as "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine" and "The Payback". • In 1983, Brown was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fameand was named as one of the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame KING OF SOUL;James Brown

She was born January 25,1938 and died on January 20, 2012. • her career started in 1954, she gained fame with hits such as "The Wallflower", "At Last", "Tell Mama", "Something's Got a Hold on Me", and "I'd Rather Go Blind“. • She is the winner of six Grammys and 17 Blues Music Awards. • She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame in both 1999 and 2008. • she received some form of Blues Female Artist of the Year award 14 times since 1989, continuously from 1999 to 2007. He was born on April 2, 1939 in Washington, D.C. and died on April 1, 1984. • He helped to shape the sound of Motown Records in the 1960s with hits including "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine“. • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted him in 1987, declaring that Gaye made a huge contribution to soul music in general and the Motown Sound in particular. • In 1990, Gaye received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. • His recordings for Motown in the 1960s and 1970s shaped that label's signature sound.
