Transitioning to Middle School • 9:30 – 3:57pm (Wednesday - 2:57pm) • Adult Supervision – 9:00am • 1st Bell – 9:25am • Lunch – 25 minutes • Lunch payment submitted via www.SchoolPay.com • Free/Reduced lunch applications can be found on the OCPS website or at: www.ocpsmealsapp.com • Application are to be completed annually • 7 different teachers & class changes • More independence • More responsibility, especially with projects and deadlines

  6. What classes will I have? Students will have seven classes including: • Academic Classes (Math, SS, Science, LA and Reading*) • Fitness • Elective Classes *Placement in reading class is determined by previous academic progress and standardized test scores.

  7. How will my teachers be determined? • All students are randomly assigned to teachers. • Your child’s schedule will be available on Skyward (our new student/parent information system) the first week in August and on the day students are scheduled to checkout devices (date to be determined).

  8. What about Advanced Academic classes? • Advanced/Honors class placement is based on: • Teacher recommendation • Standardized test scores • Previous academic performance • Middle School Advanced Classes prepare your child for Advanced Placement courses at the high school level. • Honors = High School Credit earned while in middle school.

  9. Elective Choices • Students elective forms have already been received from the elementary school. • Students were asked to rank their elective choices in order of preference • Elective classes are full-year classes. *Note: Elective class options are subject to change based on student interest and enrollment.   10. Walkers, Bike Riders, and Car Riders • Car riders should be picked up and dropped off at the car loop in the designated area. Please stay in the loop and follow the flow of traffic. • Please maintain a safe speed while driving through the parking lot. • Please refrain from cell phone use while in the car loop. • All bikes may be locked in our bike racks. • A helmet must worn at all times while riding a bike or skateboard. Transportation to and from school

Transportation to and from school Bus Transportation • Students who live a certain distance from the school are provided bus transportation. • Students may ONLY ride the bus to which they are assigned, no exceptions. • To locate your bus number, stop location, and pick up/drop off times, please visit the OCPS website and click on the “Find a Bus” tab. • Students are expected to follow all rules and procedures for bus transportation. Riding an OCPS bus is a privilege and students are expected to follow all rules and procedures to maintain this privilege.

  14. OCPS Student Dress Code All students are expected to wear their clothes as they were designed. This means: Wearing pants at the waist Shorts and skirts must be at mid-thigh No bare midriffs No tank tops or spaghetti straps Clothing that is too tight or revealing is unacceptable. (Ex. - leggings and jeggings) The Dress Code can be found on the website and in the Student Code of Conduct The following items are not allowed at: Hats/caps Flip-flops, slides, and/or backless shoes Bandanas Clothes with obscene or offensive messages and/or pictures Any item that the administration deems a disruption to the learning environment

  15. Electronic Devices • A student may possess a cell phone on school property, at after school activities, and at school-related functions, provided that during school hours and on a school bus, the cell phone remains off and is concealed unless otherwise directed by a faculty or staff member. • We discourage students from bringing other electronic devices to school as they can become a disruption to the learning environment. • At no time shall OCPS be responsible for theft, loss or damage to cell phones or other electronic devices brought onto its property.

  22. Join SAC! • Meeting: 2nd Tuesday of month Each Orange County public school invites parents to get involved. One of the ways parents can get involved is through the School Advisory Council (SAC). This council is a group that brings representatives of stakeholders together to assist the school principal with developing and evaluating a school improvement plan.
