  2. Why is goal setting important? • They give us a sense of direction. • They motivate us to achieve. • They make us feel good about ourselves and what we do. • They point out strengths. • They make us aware of our weaknesses.

  3. More… • They help us visualize what is important, plan actions, and then a way to carry them out. • They help us make decisions. • THEY MAKE US REPONSIBLE FOR OUR OWN LIVES – both success and failure.

  4. Defining Goals = Priorities • Specific • Measurable results • Attainable • Realistic • Target for completion

  5. Types of Goals • Long Term • Short Term

  6. Long Term • Time = More than a week • Usually LIFE CHANGING • These goals are the “big picture” • Examples • Going to college • Getting a job • Having children • Traveling around the world

  7. Short Term • Time = Less than a week • “Stepping stones” to Long Term • Examples • Getting assignments finished • Getting an internship over summer • Finding a date to prom • Getting your passport

  8. Timeline Activity Use the sheet attached • Make long terms goals (for each) • Academic • Career • Social • Entertainment • Make short term goals to help you reach these long term goals • Figure out how much time it will take to accomplish each

  9. Workshop Planning Activity Type it up in Word. Things to include: • Ice Breakers • “Get to know you” activities • Pretend it is a group of 50 • Teambuilding Activities • 3 different types (that we have not done) • Name the materials needed • Write directions for the leader • Teamwork Quiz • Based on what you know about teamwork • Make it at least 10 questions
