Thomas • South • Casualties- 18,4542, • 312 killed • 14,674 wounded • 1,468 captured/missing • Commanders- • General Braxton Bragg • Lt. General James Longstreet

Details • Took place in Catoosa County and Walker county • Lasted September 19th and 20th, 1863 • First day- • Neither side gained any real advantage on the first day • South sent multiple attacks but they were defeated each time • Second day- • Both sides were constantly shifting positions so the other didn’t know their exact positions • Rosecrans, who wasn’t sure himself of the location of his troops, was misinformed of a gap in his line • He quickly sent General Thomas Wood and his troops to fill the supposed gap • Instead of filling a gap, this created a real gaping hole • Longstreet too advantage of this mistake and lead his men though the gap • One third of the North’s army, including Rosecrans, was pushed out of the field • Thomas then took over, his men held until dark • He then took his men to Chattanooga giving the fighting field to the South • Ended in a Confederate victory
