  4. What Led to this Battle? • Three army corps compromising Rosecran’s army split and set out for Chattanooga. • His forces scattered in Tennsesse and Georgia. They forced Bragg’s army out. • They decided to meet a part of Rosecran’s army’s defeat

  5. Day 1. Sept. 19th 1863 • Thomas ordered Brannan’s division then posted down the road two miles north of Lee and Gordon’s Mill. • Brannan encountered and drove back Forrest’s dismounted cavalry, witch called on the nearest Confederate infantry for help. • This brought on all-day battle

  6. Day 2. Sept,20 1863 • Bragg continued his assault on the Union. • Rosecrans was informed he had a gap in his line. • George H. Thomas took over command and began consolidating • The Confederacy Won

  7. Statistics • Total Casualties- 34,624 • Union-16,170 • Confederacy-18,454

  8. Who won? The Confederates won the battle of Chickamauga

  9. Did you know • That the line in Gen. Robert E. Lee and Stone Wall Jackson form had a break in it and Rosecrans put his men in the break. • The shift of lines , of his army made a gap.
