  1. Battle of Chickamauga This battle started on September 18, 1963 to September 20, 1963 The battle of Chickamauga took place in Georgia

  2. Battle Summary The Union commander Rosecrans decided to try and force the Confederate out of Chattanooga. The Confederate was determined to get back control of Chattanooga. The Confederate moved out and intercepted Rosecrans’s army. Bragg, the Confederate commander battered at the Union’s front line but couldn’t break through. The next mourning, March 20th, Bragg created his own gap in the Union line driving out one third of the Union’s armed forces, along with Rosecrans himself. George H. Thomas took over command and fell back to Horseshoe Ridge and Snodgrass Hill. Thomas then fled his forces back into Chattanooga leaving the field to the Confederate.

  4. Rosecrans Rosecrans was the Union commander. He was an inventor and also a U.S. Union general. He was famous for his victory at Western Theater. His fame ended in a disastrous defeat in Chickamauga Braxton Bragg was the Confederate commander. He was born march 22, 1819 and was a career United States army officer and then was a Confederate general. Bragg

  5. Battle summary Rosecrans was trying to force the Confederate out of Chattanooga. Rosecrans’s army forced the Confederate south but Bragg, the Confederate commander was determined to reoccupy Chattanooga. Bragg battered the Union line all night, eventually in the mourning Rosecrans found a gap in his line. Rosecrans sent men to fill in the gap, in doing so he created one himself. The confederate forced 1/3 of the Union army out of Chattanooga along with Rosecrans himself. George H. Thomas took over command and began consolidating his forces. Thomas’s army held till after dark. Thomas then fled his forces away from the battle leaving the field to the Confederate. Even though the Confederates won the battle, they did not press their advantage. The Union army had retreated to Chattanooga. Instead of focusing their attacks there, Longstreet was sent to attack Knoxville. Lincoln had time to replace Rosecrans with General Ulysses Grant who brought in reinforcements.
