  11. ICT Options BTEC Computing Creative I-media

BTEC ICT This course covers a broad range of ICT topics and includes a choice of optional units in Year 11. • Looks at ICT from a general angle. • Explore online communication (such as social networking) • Develop an e - portfolio of work • Assessment • Online examination • Coursework e-portfolio • Coursework (Optional units in Y11)

  13. GCSE Computing This course looks at the workings of computer software and hardware, what goes on “behind the scenes”. It involves: • Learning about the theory of computers, current and emerging technologies • Using languages to learn about programming • Developing problem solving skills and techniques • Skills in Maths and an interest in computers, creating programs, programming and a passionate for using more than common office software tools • Assessment • Written Paper - Computer systems and programming. • Controlled Assignment (2)- A practical investigation and a programming project.

Creative I- Media This course looks at ICT from an artistic and design perspective and • Explores classic techniques used in graphics and media (e.g. clay animation) • Uses specialist packages in particular the Adobe suite (Flash, Photoshop, etc) • Works practically with given scenarios • Requires students to be creative and artistic in using computers and to work independently to deadlines on projects. • Assessment* • Examination • Controlled Assignment • Coursework • *Please be aware that this is under revision by the exam board so plans are not definite re assessment

The following Level One courses may be available for study at the Danesgate Centre from September 2013: • Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector • Introductory Diploma in Construction Skills • Introductory Certificate in Construction Skills • Level 1 in Food Preparation & Cooking • Certificate & Diploma in Land Based Studies • Bridge Project – Employability & Personal Development • BTEC Award/Certificate/Diploma in Public Services • These courses are suitable for students likely to achieve grades D-G at GCSE.
