  1. FQ: How can we familiarize ourselves with the course requirements in order understand what is expected of us this school year? DO NOW: Take all Handouts by the door Please Find your Seat (quietly)

COURSE SYLLABUS • Read Through and Review • Course Syllabus • Course description • Regents Exam Overview (This year of Social Studies is very important) • How are you graded? • Course Policies • Academic Integrity (What does that mean?) • What will we be learning this year? • Class Contracts • Teacher Contact Information (Email) • THE WEBSITE!! • Materials required for class • Guidelines for our class • Homework: 1. Have the contract signed • 2. Have contact sheet filled out

  3. Class Format • Enter and collect sheets by the door and take your seat. • READ the activity guide- What needs to be complete? What should I know? • Complete DO NOW on the board quietly • Lesson- Power point and Fill-in Notes (You are expected to highlight the most important information) • Class Activity- make sure you are participating • Closure- This may be a question or class discussion to sum up the ideas we have learned.

  4. Classroom Expectations- Entering • The door will stay open until class starts. A closed classroom door means you are LATE! • 3 lateness equals a detention • Enter the room quietly- sit in your assigned seat. • Read the activity guide • What needs to be completed? What should you know?

  5. Classroom Expectations- Entering • 3. Copy the homework off the homework board. Hand in your homework to the homework basket being passed around. • Homework are not accepted at the end of the class. Hand it in first thing. • If you are absent you must have an absence note attached to your homework for credit • PUT YOUR NAME ON EVERYTHING- no name no credit. It goes in the garbage. • An absence does not excuse you from the homework. Make sure you look on the website and complete it. • 4. Start working on your DO NOW

  6. Classroom Expectation- While in Class • Raise your hand when you need to speak • Do not touch anything on Mrs. Koo’s desk. This area is off limits • Participate- This is part of your grade. • Be prepared to be called on even though your hand is not raised • Participating during group work and group discussions is a REQUIREMENT. • Be respectful (Attitude and Language) • Ask before leaving the classroom. Do not just walk out. This will result in a detention. • NO FOOD- only bottled water is allowed.

Classroom Expectations- Exiting • Clean up your desk • Make sure you take all your notes and classroom materials (pens, paper, and miscellaneous items) • Make sure the homework is copied • Place all textbooks or materials in the CENTER of the table • Hand in all class work for grades- I will collect it at the door • PUSH IN YOUR CHAIRS

  9. Homework Have the class contract signed Fill in the Parent Contact Sheet This is your first homework assignment- your grade for this semester will reflect if you can get a piece of paper signed.

  10. Let’s Practice a SAMPLE CLASS What I need to complete: The Do Now and participate in your group What should I know? Which topics you know and do not know from 9th grade. How much information will I need to review for the global regents
