  1. All about the stomach… • The stomach is an expanded section of the digestive tube between the esophagus and small intestine, has five layers. Have many Different types of cancers.

  2. Esophagus • The tube that connects the pharynx (throat) with the stomach. • The esophagus lies between the trachea (windpipe) and the spine.

  3. Stomach Cell Heather Staton Period 4

  4. Lower Esophageal Sphincter • The esophagus is a tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. • It is simply a conduit for food and does not aid in digestion.

  5. The Pylorus • The most distal and narrow section of the stomach. • As food passes through the pyloric canal into the small intestine.

  6. Small Intestine & large intestine • Absorbs all the nutrients and helps break the food down even more. • Shorter part of the intestine, comprising the cecum, colon, and rectum, that absorbs water from the eliminates the residues of digestion.

  7. Osmosis and Diffusion • Osmosis helps the stomach separate good nutrients and bad nutrients. • Helps “organize” the fats and nutrients. • Definition: the tendency of a fluid, usually water, to pass through a membrane. • Diffusion also helps by “breaking down or tearing apart” the food. • Definition: act of diffusing; state of being diffused.

  8. Cellular Respiration • The energy that the food gives off is used to give the cells energy. • The stomach is like photosynthesis it takes the carbon dioxide (the food) and turns it into Oxygen (energy for cells.) for the plant and environment.
