  1. Resolution 1210a: Overview • This resolution will cause the GA to adopt a 20% by 2020 sustainable food purchasing goal for events and meetings that are run by the Graduate Assembly • This proposed goal is based on UC’s sustainable food purchasing goal for campus food providers, and the sustainable food definitions come from the UC Sustainable Food Workgroup • Directs ES Chair and ES committee to review current purchasing practices, to make recommendations regarding the easiest ways to meet this goal, and to help implement these recommendations

  2. Sustainability RecommendationsResolution 1210a: • Some people on the committee believe that we can achieve 80% by 2020 instead of 20%, and that as a progressive institution, we should be setting more aggressive goals. • Lines 44-47: That the ES committee and the ES chair shall implement a system that will monitor and record progress towards this goal, shall assist relevant parties in achieving this goal, and shall report annually on the state of this goal.

  3. EAVP Committee RecommendationsResolution 1210a: • Committee supports overall goal of making sustainable decisions but the resolution should also provide clear details about which purchases would be covered, and provide parameters around GA events that are included in the goal. • Recommend that the Office of sustainability provide “green event” certification, and have an annual goal of the number of events that are certified “green.” • Consider increasing the percentage goal. 50% of purchases should be considered, especially given the broad definition of “sustainable.”

  4. Rules RecommendationsResolution 1210a: • This slide present recommendations from the committee: • Whereas Clauses 6 and 25: Provide sources and citations when referencing or quoting text • Line 39: This line should read “that the Graduate Assembly shall adopt a goal for the fiscal year 2020 of purchasing” • Line 17: What does “public-facing events” mean. Consider rewording to “public events”

  5. Rules Recommendations Cont.Resolution 1210a: • Lines 22 & 40: “20% sustainable food”-What does 20% consists of? Dollars spent? • Sustainability Group should avoid reporting to delegates regarding this policy in Sept., April, and May • Other Questions for Authors of Resolution: • What events will be subject to resolution? GA events? GA sponsored events? Committee meetings? • Was a cost-analysis used? • How will the Sustainability monitor progress and enforce policy
