UK China Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network 中 英 可 持 续 农 业 创 新 协 作 网 UK China Financial & Economic Dialogue September 2011 The two sides will make full use of UK-China Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network (SAIN), in order to facilitate the implementation of the Action Plan for UK-China Cooperation on Food Security, explore approaches and methods of assisting other developing countries in increasing food security through UK-China cooperation, promote sustainable agricultural development of the two countries, and contribute to strengthening global food security.

UK China Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network 中 英 可 持 续 农 业 创 新 协 作 网 SAIN Governing Board meeting, 2013:Summary of Key Conclusions and Actions • Place the emphasis on increasing policy and industry impacts • Embrace the concept of “sustainable intensification” in its work, • Function as a network to spread existing and new knowledge, technology and best practice. • Include research into how innovation and technology in agriculture supports social and economic growth, and the environmental and health benefits • Explore the extent to which trade between China and the UK contributes to sustainable intensification. • Provide a “shop window” to enable academics, policy makers and business people to demonstrate the benefits and successes of cooperation between the UK and China • Develop a long term plan, • Incorporatebusiness representatives into its Working Group structures • Diversify its funding options

UK China Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network 中 英 可 持 续 农 业 创 新 协 作 网 • Maintaining a smooth operation of SAIN • Support the implementation of on-going research projects • Preparation for GB meeting in 2015 • Enhance SAIN impact • Support CBBC to analyse the survey responses • Incorporate business representatives into SAIN’s Working Group structures • Support the International Soil Carbon conference in China, September 2014 • Development of long term strategic plan • Support Horizon Scanning team to review and identify cooperation priorities • Develop the proposals based on to the findings of the Survey and Horizon Scanning

UK China Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network 中 英 可 持 续 农 业 创 新 协 作 网 • Spread existing and new knowledge, technology & best practice • Publication of SAIN Special Issue (Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment) • Continue the existing communication activities, • Presentations at relevant international and national events • Develop a “shop window” • Develop an information hub in partnership with policy, academic and business stakeholders • Upgrade the existing communication tools as part of the shop wind • Diversify SAIN funding options • Working with MoA, Dfid and Defra to build tripartite knowledge exchange between the UK, China and Africa • Develop proposals jointly with private sector following survey and horizon scanning
