  2. Purpose Of Lesson • Basic safety for daily life • Basic shop safety • How to locate and follow safety information on tools and equipment.

  3. WE WILL DISCUSS • Proper Shop Behavior • Proper Dress • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Fire Safety • Blood Bourne Pathogens • Safety Signage (TERMS) • Safety Colors • Basic Tools • Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

  4. Your Safety and the Safety of others is at Stake!!! • WALK – Never run • Never clown around • Be considerate of others • Stay in your assigned area

  5. Always Practice Correct Safety Procedures • Dress Correctly • Report any unsafe conditions to instructor IMMEDIATELY • Never use Equipment your not trained to use

  6. If your not using the toolLEAVE IT ALONE • Get permission to use any tool or equipment • Only one student at a time use a tool • Don’t throw it away!!

  7. Do not rely on the protective gear to keep you safe • Only use a tool for its specific purpose

  8. At the End of Each Hour • Stay on a Dry Floor • Do not use power tools unless your instructor is present

  9. At the End of Each Hour • Tools must be in place and lab cleaned after each class…..

  10. Fire Safety • You can use a fire extinguisher to stop a small fire • Using the wrong type of fire extinguisher could KILL YOU!!!!

  11. There are Many Types of Fire • Class A Ordinary Combustibles • Class B Flammable Liquids • Class C Flammable Gases • Class D Flammable Metals • Class Electrical • Class F Flammable Liquid (grease/oil)

  17. How to Handle Blood • Use Gloves • Dispose of in proper way • If serious – Fill out accident report

  18. Safety Colors • RED – Fire • GREEN – Safety • BLUE – Out of Order

  19. Safety Stripes • Yellow – Hazard or object in the way that cannot be moved • Yellow and Black – Show areas where operators only are allowed

  20. Hot Glue Gun • Do not touch the tip • Use only the correct size glue stick • Do not put anything except glue in the gun

  21. Wait until glue is completely melted before using • Glue can burn you through thin materials

POTENTIALLY DEADLY, AND ETC… • Warning = COULD CAUSE YOU SERIOUS INJURY, ETC… • Caution = COULD HURT YOU, DAMAGE YOUR PROJECT, &/OR THE DAMAGE THE MACHINE • Important = YOU COULD BREAK THE MACHINE &/OR MESS UP YOUR PROJECT • Notice = YOUR PROJECT WILL MESS UP, NOT COME OUT RIGHT
