  9. The CMA’s new GTS System (1) • Hardware and Network The data communication system and the Message Switching System (MSS) are two separate systems. Each system is a duplicated system. Moreover, in order to provide real-time meteorological data to national and international users, the Internet web site environment is set up independently.

  10. The Software structure Files Transaction Statistics subsystem MSS Operational moniting subsystem Web

  11. Software facilities of New MSS • Front end • collecting and transmitting data via GTS links. • Supporting FTP, TCP sockets, X.25, Asynchronous • Files switching • Files naming conversation • Back end • checking data • packaging messages and files • distributing data to the other internal operational systems, such as real-time database. • Operational monitor system • monitoring and managing the application system • C/S based software • running on Linux based PCs

  12. The CMA’s new GTS System (2) • Application Software The application software of the new GTS system consists of three subsystems, i.e., communication subsystem, MSS and operational monitoring subsystem. The communication subsystem, supporting diversified circuits and various protocols, collects data from GTS and relays them to MSS where data recognition, archiving and distributing to the other internal operational systems, such as domestic communication system and real-time database system, is accomplished . At the same time , MSS provides national and international data as operational requirements to communication subsystem where data distribution via the appointed GTS circuits is completed. A lot of operation condition of the CIMCS, such as data transmission and system operation, are performed by the operational monitor subsystem .

  13. MSS data flow mdp tcop unpack Mfc rfc bc pack log rp msg lp Tcp server cp

  14. MSS Processing • source from ftp server and files server • Domestic data reediting to WMO standers • Data is identified by WMO heading • Data stored in a receive queue along with information retrieved from a routing catalogs • Data written to transmit queue based on routing catalogs information • Data sent to files server

  15. TCP IN FTP IN Local files distribution Files Server Local files distribution TCP OUT FTP OUT Files Transaction data flow

  16. Files Input and Output Methods • IP Sockets • FTP • X.25 • Asynchronous • E-mail • Web

  17. The CMA’s new GTS System (3) • Key technologies and measures • Migration of MSS software. VMS platform will be replace by UNIX platform in the new GTS system. So, it is necessary to make a thorough analysis of MSS software, and move its core technologies and functions to UNIX-based system. • Development of GUI-based monitor system .A completely new and opened GUI-based monitor system will be developed . • Adjusting data flow and re-organizing operation. The principal data transmission node will be changed from a message basis to a file basis. The relevant adjustment will also be made on such aspects as data flow and operation organization , management and running . • Establishing a close connection between the current domestic communication system and the third generation CIMCS. Due to some historical reasons, CMA’s domestic comm. System and its international comm. System are two separate systems, and running on two different platforms. However , it is inevitable that the real-time data and products need exchanging and sharing between the two system. Thus ,the functions and features
