  2. How did this process begin? • Common Core • 45 states, D.C., four territories, and DOD Ed. • Areas of growth related to Common Core in Marblehead • Curriculum • Math Programs

  3. Process.. • Two committees – Curriculum and Adoption • Involved 65 total teachers from PreK – 12 • Math Curriculum Committee • Charged with updating curriculum to meet Common Core Developed a new Prek-12 math curriculum • Power Standards • “I can do” statements

Process (con’t) • Math Adoption Committee • Charged with identifying the best delivery system (textbooks) for the new curriculum • Had eight different vendors present their products • Conducted site visits and interviews of teachers currently using these programs • Piloted a few lessons • Prioritized math programs that incorporated Common Core, met new math curriculum, and included a 6-8 component • Why 6 – 8? • Abstract nature of middle-level mathematics • Current research

  5. Decision…. Big Ideas Mathematics • Why? • Well-written • Incorporated Common Core • Good mix of experiential and pragmatic approaches • Matched current curriculum • Accelerated 7th grade curriculum • Good resources • Teachers, parents, and students
