2. The Year of Testing… PSAT ASVAB ACT SAT AP The good news…most are optional. The bad news…you are encouraged to take some.
3. PSAT/NMSQT Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test Optional for all students Measures critical reading, mathematical reasoning, and writing skills that are important for success in college. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 8:15 am-11:30 am TBD Cost: $14.00 (Fee waivers available if you qualify for free and reduced lunch, see your counselor.) Register by signing up in the high school office. Only 50 tests are available, so the first 50 students to sign up will be allowed to test.
4. Why take the PSAT? Only way to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship is to take the PSAT your junior year Earn scholarships and academic recognition The PSAT/NMSQT Program provides valuable resources that help students prepare for the SAT and take important first steps toward college Get feedback on how to improve academically Begin the college search process and explore colleges, majors, and careers

ASVAB Required to enter the military Optional for all students Test coves eight areas: general science arithmetic reasoning word knowledge paragraph comprehension math knowledge electronics information auto and shop information mechanical comprehension Thursday, November 7, 2013 8:15 am – 11:30 am OHS – LGI Cost: Free Register by signing up in the high school office.
6. Why take the ASVAB? Required to enter the military Provides military entrance score Score can be used to give you an estimated ACT or SAT score Career exploration and planning program Offers an interest inventory to help students explore the world of work And it’s FREE!
7. ACT Most widely used college entrance exam. Multiple choice test in four areas: English Math Reading Science Writing is optional, but required by some colleges. Offered at OHS Saturday, October 26, 2013 Saturday, April 12, 2014 Saturday, June 14, 2014 Cost: $36.50 non-writing or $52.50 writing (Fee waivers available if you qualify for free and reduced lunch, see your counselor.) If student has a documented disability, see your counselor for testing accommodations Register online at www.actstudent.org

9. SAT College entrance exam used mainly for schools on the east and west coast. Offered 7 times throughout the year at area locations Needed for entrance into some four year colleges/universities Cost: $51.00 Register on-line at www.collegeboard.com (Fee waivers available if you qualify for free and reduced lunch, see your counselor.)
10. AP (Advanced Placement) May 2014 Cost $89.00 each Fee reduction for students with financial need. See your counselor More information to come in the spring.
11. Campus Visits Take a road trip ~ go out and visit colleges! Sign up in advance on the college website Tour campus Meet with admissions Get a feel for what the campus is really like
12. College Fairs National College Fair September 24th & 25th Minneapolis Convention Center Over 400 college attending from all over the U.S. Wisconsin College Fair October 7th – UW-Barron County Rice Lake October 8th & 9th– CVTC Eau Claire
