  4. Mussolini’s Rise to Power • He was a newspaper editor and politician • Promised to revive Italy by • Reviving economy • Rebuilding armed forces • Vowed to give Italy strong leadership • Founded Fascist Party in 1919

Mussolini’s Rise to Power • Popularity increased as economic problems increased • Used fear of a Communist revolution to gain support of middle and upper classes • In October,1922, 30,000 Fascists marched on Rome • Demand king to put Mussolini in charge of government • King decides it was the best way to save Italy
