Frog Dissection. First Steps. Rinse frog in water Obtain frog and place frog on its dorsal (back) side.  Pin limbs to dissection tray. Making Incisions. Use forceps to lift frogs skin between rear legs. Use scalpel to cut through lifted skin. A B CD EF.

  1. Frog Dissection

  2. First Steps • Rinse frog in water • Obtain frog and place frog on its dorsal (back) side.  Pin limbs to dissection tray

  3. Making Incisions • Use forceps to lift frogs skin between rear legs. Use scalpel to cut through lifted skin. AB CD EF

  4. Exposing the Muscular Tissue • Lift one flap of skin with the forceps. (separate muscle layer from skin) • Pin the flaps of skin to the dissection tray • Make a vertical incision through the abdominal muscle (use scissors up until just before the front legs) • Cut through chest bones vertically then make lateral cuts

  5. Exposing the Chest Cavity • Use forceps to pull back and hold muscle flaps. Use scalpel to separate organ from muscle tissue. • Pin flaps to dissection tray.

  6. Exposing the Organs • Use forceps to pick up the triangular flaps of skin and muscle below the front legs. • Pin the flaps back enough to access body cavity
