  1. Filter lenses as optical adapters for R8900 L. Gambicorti(a), V. Bratina(b)(c), P. Mazzinghi(b)(c), E. Pace(a)(c) (a) XUVLab, Dipartimento Astronomia e Scienza dello Spazio, Università di Firenze, Firenze (Italy) (b) Istituto Nazionale di Ottica Applicata, Firenze (Italy) (c) INFN, Sezione di Firenze, Firenze (Italy) EUSO IWG Meeting - Palermo 3-5 February 2003

  2. Why optical adapters? The aim is to develop optical adapters for the R8900 MAPMT in order to • Improve the collection efficiency (> 79%) • Include the UV filter without reducing collection efficiency • Keep the total mass below the spec (25 kg) • Keep imaging capabilities EUSO IWG Meeting - Palermo 3-5 February 2003

  3. MAPMT window Filter lens Mirror Filter lens EUSO IWG Meeting - Palermo 3-5 February 2003

  12. Track simulation EUSO IWG Meeting - Palermo 3-5 February 2003

  13. Conclusions • We have obtained an almost constant high efficiency in the range 300-400 nm, including the absorption of the UV filter: 95 of 100 photons impinging on the FS are collected • This filter lens can be coupled to the R8900 only. The performance of R8900+filter lens (95%) is much better than R7600+collectors (75%) • The blue-leak problem of BG3 has been solved using multilayer coatings • The total mass is well within the spec’s • The filter lens are feasible at low risk (Galileo Avionica, LAV coatings) EUSO IWG Meeting - Palermo 3-5 February 2003
