  7. Classroom Procedures When you are at school everything should be related to learning. I have listed common classroom procedures that we should all abide by when in the classroom. These procedures will save us time, and allow all students to have a better understanding of our classroom structure.

  8. Entering the Classroom • Enter quickly and quietly. NO tardies for 1st period. • Turn in all homework to the HW inbox right away-late work is not accepted by the English Dept. • Be in your seat and ready to work whenthe bell rings. • Look to the main whiteboard for the lesson’s objectives. • Get out all necessary class materials and be prepared to work!

  9. During Class • Raise your hand if you have any questions or comments. • If the class gets rowdy or does not listen to instruction I will stop teaching and wait silently until you are ready to recommence. Participation Points will be deducted. • All food should be stored away in your backpacks during class. Drinking water/soda is permissible, just as long as it is in a bottle and is kept away from electronic machinery. NO EATING! • If you need to use the restroom, take out your Student Planner and write the date, time, and destination. I will sign your Hall Pass. • Keep your desk and floor area clean of all debris and material not related to our class. • No makeup, hats, sunglasses, etc. should be out or used during class. • No electronic devices (If I see one, I will take it). The only exception is if you bring your lap top to work on your essays during writing week.

  10. Leaving the Classroom • Most importantly, the bell does not dismiss you, I do. • Do not pack up until 5 minutes before the bell. • If I ask you to stay after class for a S/T discussion, you will without hesitation. • If you used a class material such as a dictionary or thesaurus, please return it to the classroom materials bookshelf neatly. • Clean up your desk and floor area BEFORE leaving class. Any left materials will only be kept in class for a few days.

  14. Attendance and Tardies • This class will strictly adhere to the attendance and tardy policies outlined in the KHS student handbook. A student is considered tardy if he or she is not seated when the bell rings. If a student comes late to class and work has already been collected, it will not be accepted. Be on time! • Only excused absences can make up work missed. If a student is absent when an assignment is due, he/she must have someone turn the work in to Miss Scalf. • If a student is absent for an OCS, he or she must see Miss Scalf beforethe OCS to get the work. Then he/she must turn the assignment in by the end of the OCS day.

  15. Late Work • Late work will not be accepted. • Essays and projects are due on the assigned due date. No exceptions will be made. • Do not try to turn work in late if you were absent. Have someone bring it for you. • Assignments need to be turned in at the beginning of the period. • If a student does not turn in an assignment, a zero will be given. • It is not my responsibility to keep track of what you miss during an absence(s); you must come to me.

  16. Excused Absences • If a student is absent, he/she must find out about missed work by asking a classmate, checking the class website, or asking Miss Scalf before school. • Make-up work is due within the same number of days the student was absent. • Please make sure your absences are cleared before turning in make-up work. • If a student becomes chronically absent (and they are excused), Miss. Scalf does have the right to not allow the student to make up work. The student needs to be in class.

  17. Daily Supplies • Every day, students need to have lined white paper, pens of different colors, 2-3 different colored highlighters, 3 ring binder with dividers, and reading excerpts. • We will be reading the novel, Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer this semester. Each student must purchase a copy of the novel by March 1st.

  18. Teacher Availability • I am available before school; I’m usually on campus by 7:20 (unless we have an earlier appt.). • I am available during 2nd and 5th period and/or lunch (if we have an appt.). • Unfortunately, I am not always available after school. • Email: j.scalf03@yahoo.com (I do not have a district account) • Gonzalez_mi@auhsd.us • Class website: www.mgonzalezkhs.net(See Miss Scalf, period 1 section)
