  4. SUNNINGDALE: PEOPLE AND PARTIES ULSTER UNIONIST PARTY Main Unionist Party up to Sunningdale Led By BRIAN FAULKNER up to Sunningdale. Was split over Sunningdale. Ruling Council voted against it. Faulkner had to resign Faulkner set up a new party THE UNIONIST PARTY OF N. IRELAND.

  6. SUNNINGDALE: PEOPLE AND PARTIES THE SDLP (Social,Democratic and Labour Party) Set up in August 1970. Anti-violence and against Unionist dominated rule. Gerry Fitt leader. John Hume Deputy leader. Came up with the idea of power sharing.

  8. SUNNINGDALE: PEOPLE AND PARTIES THE VANGUARD PARTY Set up by WILLIAM CRAIG after he was beaten by Faulkner in 71 for the leadership of UUP. It was hard line Unionist – against power sharing and any form of connection to the Republic.

  9. SUNNINGDALE: PEOPLE AND PARTIES THE DEMOCRATIC UNIONIST PARTY (DUP) Set up in 1971 by IAN PAISLEY. Most supporters from his own Prebyterian Church. Strongly against Sunningdale – power sharing and the Council of Ireland.
