It is derived from Latin and Greek; “far sight” (tele – far, visio – sight) • Transmitter of images and sound • Materials used: Metal and Iron
The television was invented by different people over time: • Paul Nipkow – 1884; created a rotating-disc to send out pictures through a wire. • John Logie Baird – 1923; came up with the idea of the “television transmitter”; created using inventions Nipkow’s invention • Philo Farnsworth – 1927; made first reliable and working television
Color television – first patented in 1904 in Germany; was authorized in America on December 17, 1953 • Remote control – first invented in the 1950’s; entered American homes in June of 1956 Hands free, universal remote
Plasma tv – prototype was invented in 1964 by Donald Bitzer, Gene Slottow, and Robert Willson.
Society is greatly impacted by television. It can motivate different actions such as violence. These motivations are from subliminal messages in shows and commercials. But it is also used as ways to keep up with current events around the world.
The televisions of today use more energy than the first televisions made. • Though the first real television was invented in the 1920’s, the era of electronic communication began in 1831.
