  2. Pre WW2 • In the electromechanical ere TV sets were sold from 1928 to 1934 in the UK, US, and the Soviet Union. In 1928 Baird Made sets in the UK that consisted of neon tubes. These were actually radios with a built in TV with a picture about 4 times the size of a postage stamp.

  3. Pre WW2 • The first commercially made electronic TV were made in 1934 in Germany. In 1938 a TV with a12 inch screen cost $445 in the US (Roughly the equivalent to $6633 today).

  4. Post Production stoppage • During World War 2 Production banns were in place to conserve resources. • But after these bans production started up again. In 1947 Motorola introduced the VT71 it was the first for under $200.

  5. The golden age of America • In the 1960’s TV's were made with vacuum tubes. This made the TV’s very heavy and unreliable. Tubes were also very poorly suited to color TV because so many were needed for color TV. This reliability was a real issue.

  6. Hippie TV’s • By the 1970’s solid state electronics appeared and replaced vacuumed tubes in color. Black and white TV's remained to be produced with vacuum tubes. These solid state electronics allowed for much more reliable TV’s and better picture quality. 1971 was the first year that color TV’s exceeded the sells of black and white.

  7. Tuners • 5 years earlier the FCC began required UHF tuners. These tuners allowed you to pick up channels; without these you would receive no channels. Most sets didn’t come equipped with them; you had to order these tuners to receive a picture.

  8. Bonus facts • The first LCDTV’s were introduced in 1988. • The First remote was made for commercial use in the early 80’s. • On June 12, 2009 Analog broadcast television in the US was ended.
