  4. Water Resources Assessment 2006-07 • Severe drought across whole of MD Basin with record low inflows in each of the past 5 months • Unprecedented fall in storage levels over the winter and spring periods • Flow to SA for 2006-07 current prediction (dry conditions) 1 440 GL (as revised 13 November 2006)

  5. Deterioration in Predicted Flows to South Australia • Progressive deterioration in predicted flows • June 1840GL • July 1810GL • August 1800 GL • September 1580GL • October 1440GL

  6. Total MDB Storage Outlook • With dry conditions persisting– total storage at May 2007 will be only 390 GL (4%) • Even under the median inflow case by May 2007 storage levels may only reach 700GL • Storages unlikely to recover this year without extreme rainfall and runoff

  7. River Water Levels • Anticipated that the flow to SA should be sufficient to maintain access at 60% of allocation for 2006-07 • The critical issue will be water levels in Lower Lakes beyond March 2007 • The river will be micro-managed in an effort to maintain a level in this weir pool to allow irrigation during the whole irrigation season but may not be possible
