The update from the RLMO Round Table discusses the actions taken since last year's survey conducted by COOMET and explores the future role of the Round Table. Key proposals include enhancing networks for information sharing, establishing advisory groups focusing on developing countries' interests, and reviewing objectives to ensure effective continuity. Future actions involve conducting surveys on legal metrology training needs and engaging RMLOs in identifying new ideas for collaboration. A commitment to ongoing support from BIML is emphasized for a dynamic exchange of information.

ITEMS DISCUSSED Updates from RMLOs Update of actions from last year – survey conducted by COOMET / WELMEC questionnaire Future role of Round Table Terms of Reference and secretariat responsibilities Ideas for future activities 1
Options for the future of the RLMO Round Table Is a Round Table needed at all ? RLMOs are very different. Is it sufficient for each just to have a bilateral relationship with the OIML? A network sharing information and updates. A group which commits to specific activities and supervises a secretariat which conducts these. An advisory group which takes an interest in specific items in the OIML work programme, e.g. Matters of interest to developing countries. 2
IDEAS FOR FUTURE ACTION: • Exchange information about training and other needs related to legal metrology - Survey to be conducted by COOMET • Act as network for suggesting suitable trainers • Exchange information about the role of legal metrology in the various free trade agreements around the world. • Comment on items in BIML Work Programme related to developing countries. 3
CONCLUSIONS • The RLMO Round Table should be maintained, with a review of its objectives. • The activities of the RLMO Round Table are: • A network sharing experiences • A group which commits to specific activities and supervises a secretariat which conducts these. • An advisory group which takes an interest in specific items in the OIML work programme, e.g. Matters of interest to developing countries. 4
CONCLUSIONS (continued) There is a need for continuity in secretariat – BIML to assist here Use website more dynamically - eg to identify the contact persons for the RLMOs in the Round Table. Review the Terms Of Reference (The BIML will convene this review by correspondence). 5
CONCLUSIONS (continued) • Future work will focus on (1) COOMET survey and (2) study of legal metrology role in local free trade agreements • Standing invitation to RMLOs to put forward new ideas • BIML to inform Round Table members of relevant items in their work programme • Chair to remain with OIML until role and work programme established (2013?). 6
