  1. Plays phsvikingfootball.com

  2. Coverage 1, 3 MFC (Middle of the Field Closed) Versus MFC defense, burst release to a landmark 2 yards outside the hashmark and run vertically. Expect ball to be delivered anywhere past 10 yards down field. If #2 defender on or inside you blitzes you are the hot receiver expect the ball NOW! Technique: Coverage 0, 2, 4 (Middle of the Field Open) Seam: Same technique as above. Middle Read: Versus MFO, burst release to a landmark 2 yds outside hashmark. At 12-15 yards vertical depth, take an angle inside near safety toward the near upright. If #2 defender on or inside you blitzes you are the hot receiver expect the ball NOW! Technique: Notes: 1. Versus Cover 0, no safety will be present, but it is still to be considered MFO, therefore the Middle Read will take angle toward near upright. 2. In 3x1 formation #2 receiver will have Middle Read, unless ‘Swap’

  3. Coverage 0, 1, 3, 4 (Off ) 0, 1, 3, 4 (Press) Versus ‘Off’ corner, press vertically to 8 yards depth, hook up and present your numbers to QB. Versus ‘Press’ coverage, run 1-step smoke route Technique: Technique: Coverage 2 Widen corner, run vertically to 5 yds depth, hook up and present your numbers to QB. Technique: Notes: 1. Be a stationary target out of your break! 2. If the ball is not delivered to you initially, work back toward QB, gaining separation from defender.

  4. Coverage 0, 1, 3, 4 (Off ) 0, 1, 3, 4 (Press) Threaten DB vertically for 5 steps, then break inside at 45 degree Angle and separate from DB. Threaten DB’s outside shoulder, making him believe you are running a ‘Go’ route… when his hips turn and run, undercut him and separate inside at a flatter angle. Technique: Technique: Coverage 2 Widen DB’s to 5 yards depth, plant and run inside at a very flat angle under control. Ball will be caught between corner and First inside defender. Technique: Notes: 1. You must always cross the defender’s face! Never go behind defender!! 2. Inside Slants are run off a 1-step vertical push (stem), then take an angle just inside the first defender head-up to inside of your alignment. If your defender vacates your area (I.E. buzz, blitz, etc.) present your numbers to QB and proceed vertically under control.

  5. Coverage 2, 3, 4 (ZONE) Burst release and then push vertically to a depth of 12-14 yds. Break inside on a flat angle and be under control. Find a ‘Window” to settle into and present your numbers to QB. Technique: Coverage O, 1 (Man) Technique: Burst release and then push vertically to a depth of 12-14 yds. Break inside on a flat to downhill angle and run away from defender. Notes: 1. A ‘Basic’ route should appear to the defense as a ‘Seam’ route up until your break point at 12-14 yards. Sell the ‘Basic’ route vertically to win vs. man coverage.

  6. Coverage ZONE SPOT: Run inside to a point 5 yds deep and 5 yds inside your alignment and hook up. If covered up by defender, work back outside. Inside SPOT: Run inside to a point over the near guard, 5 yds deep. If covered up y defender, work inside or outside to uncover, finding a Hole in the zone * Be ready for ball as you come inside. Technique: Coverage Man Technique: SPOT: Run inside to a landmark 5 yds deep and 5 yds inside your alignment. Get defender running, pivot, and break back out toward the sideline maintaining a parallel relationship to L.O.S. Inside SPOT: Run inside to a landmark over near guard, 5 yds deep. Pivot and take one step back toward your original alignment, then continue running across the ball maintaining a parallel relationship to the L.O.S.

  7. Coverage ZONE Release hard inside as if you are running a crossing route. Just before you get to the first zone defender inside of your alignment, plant and pivot back out toward the sideline. Settle in a hole in the zone between defenders. Technique: Coverage Man Technique: Run hard inside as if running a crossing route and get your defender chasing you. When you feel you have sufficiently sold the route, Plant and pivot back out toward the sideline, continuing to separate from your defender.

  8. Coverage 0, 1, 3, 4 (Off ) 0, 1, 3, 4 (Press) Run vertically. Do not run at DB’s alignment. Maintain vertical push until ball is thrown and adjust to it, catch ball over outside shoulder if contested. Attack leverage of pressed DB, then run vertically saving a minimum of 4 yds between you and the sideline. Adjust to the throw and catch ball over outside shoulder in contested. Technique: Technique: Coverage 2 Widen corner and attempt to beat him outside. If you are unable to get outside, stretch DB all the way to 2 yds from sideline and undercut him. Ball will be thrown 15-20 yds down field and 2 yds from sideline,. Technique: Notes: 1. A ‘Fade’ is thrown quickly, and a ‘Go’ in thrown more downfield. Therefore, look for a ‘Fade’ very soon, but run vertically longer before turning head to look for the ‘Go’ ball.

  9. Coverage 0, 1, 3, 4 (Off ) 0, 1, 3, 4 (Press) Run vertically for 2 steps then build to 5-6 yds depth as you gradually gain width. Maintain a flat angle toward sideline. Seam release defender and run 5 yd out, maintaining a flat angle toward sideline. Technique: Technique: Coverage 2 Run vertically to 5 yds, turn outside and settle in zone between near LB and DB. Technique: Notes: 1. If ball is not thrown to you and you come to the sideline, sit there. Do Not turn up field and do not run out of bounds.

  10. Coverage 3, 4 (Zone ) 0, 1 (Man) Seam release and get inside the first defender head-up to inside your alignment. Push vertically to 13-15 yds and speed turn to the sideline staying parallel to the L.O.S. Hard seam release flat inside, keeping the defender inside of you. Push vertically to 13-15 yds and run speed turn to sideline, parallel to L.O.S. Technique: Technique: Coverage 2 Seam release and get inside the first defender head-up to inside your alignment. Push vertically to 12-14 yds, then take corner angle to 20-25 yds and the sideline. Technique: Notes: 1. Versus cover 3 and 4, do whatever it takes to cross the face of the corner…. you may have to take an angle back toward the L.O.S.

  11. Coverage 3, 4 (Zone ) 0, 1 (Man) Seam release and get inside the first defender head-up to inside your alignment. Push vertically to 10 yds and run a hard, tight out cut. If ball is not thrown initially out of cut, find a hole in the zone to settle in. Hard seam release flat inside, keeping the defender inside of you. Push vertically to 10 yds and run a tight out cut and separate. Technique: Technique: Coverage 2 Seam release and get inside the first defender head-up to inside your alignment. Push vertically to 10 yds and run a tight out cut. Ball should be there right away, if not, find a hole in zone and settle. Technique:

  12. Coverage 3, 4 (ZONE ) 0, 1, (MAN) Technique: Run vertically to 12-14 yds, then take an angle 20-25 yds on the sideline. Seam release defender and then beat him to his outside. Run vertically to 10-12 yds and take an angle to 15-20 yds on the sideline. Technique: Coverage 2 Seam release and run vertically to 12-14 yds, then take angle 20-25 yds on sideline. Technique: Notes: 1. QB can bring you back downhill with the throw.

  13. Coverage 3 (ZONE) 2, 4 (ZONE) Technique: Burst release and widen LB to 2 yds outside hash. From there run a Seam route, expect ball around 10-15 yds down field. Technique: Burst release and widen LB, at 5-7 yds take angle inside near safety to near upright. Coverage 0, 1 (MAN) Widen defender and threaten him vertically. When he turns his hips to run, undercut him and take flattened angle inside. Continue to run away. Technique: Notes: 1. An ‘Angle Choice’ route can have multiple ‘choices’ vs. various coverage's. Make a decision and stick with it, set your angle… don’t fool the QB by changing your course. 2. Versus cover 0, expect blitz and quicken your route.

  14. Coverage 0, 1, 3, 4 (Off ) 0, 1, 3, 4 (Press) Run vertically to route depth and run an ‘In’ cut. Run through the route, no breakdown or choppy steps. THINK SPEED CUT! Seam release and get inside DB. Then run vertically to route depth and use speed cut to run away from DB inside at a flat or slightly downhill angle. Technique: Technique: Coverage 2 Burst release and widen Cover 2 corner, then push vertically to route Depth and make an ‘In’ cut. Expect ball early out of break and make Sure to be flat or slightly downhill to avoid safety. Technique: Notes: 1. 5 yd ‘In’s’ are more of a square cut. Outside (X & Z) buy a little time before coming inside. Inside (Y & F) push vertically to 5 yds and come inside quickly.

  15. Coverage (ZONE) Technique: Push to 5 yds depth at a slight inside angle, then run across the field parallel to the L.O.S. Once you cross the far tackle you can settle in zone. Run away as long as you see ‘green’. *** Do not look at the QB if you plan to sit down in zone. Coverage (Man) Technique: Release flat and inside to get DB in a chase position. Around the center area, stair step the defender by bursting up field for one step, then flatten and run away parallel to the L.O.S. • Notes: • Your eyes on the QB indicates to him that you will continue to run and will not settle down in a zone.

  16. Coverage 0, 1, 3, 4 (Off ) 0, 1, 3, 4 (Press) Technique: Run vertically to 15 yds depth, then take post angle to near upright. Versus 3 & 4, split the corner and the safety. Seam release inside defender, then push vertically to 15 yds and take post angle to near upright. If DB stays inside, give outside move at top of the route (15 yds). Technique: Coverage 2 Technique: Hard seam release to 5 yds then push vertically at Cover 2 safety to 15 yds. Then take post angle inside of near safety to goal post.

  17. Coverage (ZONE) Technique: Release inside to an area 15 yds deep over the center. At 15 yds run Parallel to the L.O.S. and find hole in zone anywhere beyond the far side tackle. If there is no defender in front of you, keep running toward The sideline. Coverage (Man) Technique: Release inside and build depth to 10 yds at a slight angle. Burst Vertically up field for 3-5 yds then separate across field to the sideline. • Notes: • Your eyes on the QB indicates to him that you will continue to run and will not settle down in a zone.

  18. Coverage 0, 1, 3, 4 (Off ) 0, 1, 3, 4 (Press) Technique: Run vertically to 12 yds depth, plant and take course directly back to QB. Continue toward QB until ball is thrown. Seam release inside defender, then plant at 12 yds and take course back to QB. Continue to QB maintaining separation from DB. Technique: Coverage 2 Technique: Burst release and widen Cover 2 corner, at 12 yds plant and move inside and back toward QB, finding a hole in the zone Notes: 1. In any zone situation, when you come out of your break, you may have to move inside to clear a defender and provide the QB an open lane to throw you the ball.

  19. Coverage 0, 1, 3, 4 (Off or Press) Technique: Seam release two steps inside, then push vertically. On your 4th inside step, plant and run a speed out to the sideline. If the defender remains inside of you, simply run away from him at the top. If he is outside of you, plant and undercut him at the top of your route. Coverage 2 Technique: Seam release Cover 2 corner and push vertically to 12-14 yds. Set a Corner angle to 20-25 yds on the sideline, remembering that the QB may bring you back downhill with the throw.

  20. Coverage 0, 1, 3 (Off ) 4 (Off) Technique: From an inside edge alignment, run vertically, widening to the outside edge of the numbers at 12 yds depth. From there, run at a slight post angle to your original alignment. Expect ball early out of break. Versus ¼’s coverage, widen to outside edge at 15 yds, then split Corner and Safety. Deep Throw. Technique: Coverage Press Technique: Outside release DB and ‘Stack’ him, then take a very skinny post angle. If you can’t beat him outside, stretch him toward sideline and undercut him.

  21. Coverage 0, 1, 3, 4 (Off ) 0, 1, 3, 4 (Press) Technique: Run vertically thru 15 yds depth, then run out of your break back downhill to the sideline… do not flatten to sideline. Outside release DB and make him feel you are running a ‘Go’ route. At 15 yds, plant and break back toward sideline coming downhill. Technique: Coverage 2 Technique: Widen Cover 2 corner and try to get outside him. Run down sideline and settle in hole between corner and safety 15-20 yds deep and 1 yd from sideline.

  22. Coverage ZONE Technique: Release vertically to 8-9 yds depth. Turn away from defender and settle in a hole. Coverage MAN (Inside Leverage) MAN (Outside Leverage) Technique: Seam defender down inside and keep him inside of you. Push vertically to 8-9 yds and turn outside… expect the ball quickly. Technique: Burst release defender and keep him outside of you. Push vertically to 8-9 yds and turn inside…. expect ball quickly. Notes: 1. Versus cover 4 (1/4’s), the purpose of the option route is to attract the safety lined up over you. Get to your depth quickly to draw the safety to you.

  23. Coverage ALL Technique: Seam release hard inside for 5-6 yds then push vertically to 15 yds. Take a post angle toward the opposite back pylon of the endzone, separating from man coverage. If, after your initial move to the post, you do not feel like you can run past the deepest safety, flatten off your route and run across the field, parallel to the L.O.S.

  24. Coverage ALL Technique: Run to a point 4 yds deep on the sideline, looking back at the QB over your shoulder closest to the L.O.S. If the ball is not thrown to you initially, hook up 2 yds from the sideline and become a stationary target for the QB. Never run out of bounds!

  25. Coverage ALL Technique: Open up and run away from the L.O.S and toward the sideline at 45 degree angle. At a point 4 yds from the L.O.S, run parallel to the L.O.S, looking back to the QB over your inside shoulder. If the ball is not thrown to you initially, begin to arc toward the L.O.S, continuing to look at the QB. Once you come to a point at the L.O.S and sideline, hook up and become a stationary target for the QB. Notes: 1. Be careful not to get too deep initially, as a backwards pass from QB that is incomplete is a fumble.

  26. Coverage ALL Technique: Take 1 hard step up field, stop and face the QB. If ball does not come to you immediately, gently work back to QB. Notes: 1. You are expected to gain a minimum of 4 yds if you catch a smoke route. Make the initial defender miss, the get outside, protecting the ball in your outside arm. Do not run horizontally, get vertical and gain yds.

  27. Double Moves

  28. UNDER A double move that is set up by an ‘OUT’ breaking route and then runback inside horizontally to the L.O.S. Orlando Under Stick Under Arrow Under Dog Under Note: Run the initial route first and sell it with your shoulders, head and eyes. Note: Always come out of your double move FLAT, never up field stay parallel to the L.O.S Note: A ‘Pivot’ Route can be thought of as a ‘Cross Break”

  29. BREAK A double move that is set up by an ‘IN’ breaking route and then run back toward the sideline, horizontal to the L.O.S Tin Under Angle Choice Break 2 Break In Break Note: Run the initial route first and sell it with your shoulders, head and eyes. Note: Always come out of your double move FLAT, never up field stay parallel to the L.O.S Note: A ‘Pivot’ Route can be thought of as a ‘Cross Break”

  30. NOD A double move that is set up by an ‘OUT’ breaking route and thrown vertically down field. Smash NOD Orlando NOD Stick NOD Dog NOD Note: Run the initial route first and sell it with your shoulders, head and eyes. Note: NODS are vertical routes, therefore you must read MFO vs. MFC to come out of your double move at the proper angle.

  31. PUMP A double move that is set up by an ‘IN’ breaking route and thrown vertically down field. 2 Pump 1 Pump Gator Pump Curl Pump Note: Run the initial route first and sell it with your shoulders, head and eyes. Notes: Pumps are vertical routes and are usually caught like a ‘GO’ route 4 yds from the sideline, with exception of ‘Gator’ pump which is read like a Seam/Middle route.
