  2. STEP 1: Transcription • Step 1 = Transcription = DNA acts as template to make RNA • Enzyme - RNA polymerase - reads DNA, binds at promoter - separates DNA strands - reads one side of DNA (template strand) - adds complementary RNA nucleotides
