  2. DIY Blended Model: Context • Satellite Campus -> TRU Lillooet • Compressed Course  3 credits in 6 days • 36 hours of teaching • Held over 3 non-consecutive weekends • 22 Students of various ages and with mixed backgrounds • 73% High-school aged students (15-18) • 27% Mature Students

Blended Learning: Intent • Extend the connection • Extend teaching period beyond the classroom • Have the course website be very user friendly • Make the course website as simple and as easy to maintain as possible yet still maintaining a relatively attractive design • Enhance engagement with the course concepts • Facilitate discussion • Improve ease of access to lecture material and additional resources • Give students agency to make the website their own • Include a section dedicated to collating student-found/posted contributions and popular media

Blended Model: In Practice • Successes • Ease of access for students • Ease of upkeep for instructor • Informal two-way communication between students and instructor • Failures • Generating engaged discussion (too much distance? Too little time?) • Online office hours (students still preferred email) • Future plans and considerations • Interactive assignments • e-Essays / Individual Presentations
