Bill Smith of Motorola was the creator of Six Sigma in 1929- 1993. • Bill Smith was an employee of Motorola and Vice President and Manager of a mobile product sector. • Smith agreed to by Motorola that the threshold is 3.4 defects per million opportunities, which is derived from sigma shifts from specifications.
