What is the National Academy of Finance (NAOF)? • The National Academy of Finance (NAOF) housed at Chopticon High School prepares young people for college and career success using its proven educational model. • The National Academy Foundation (NAF) functions as dynamic partnerships and collaborations between schools, teachers, administrators, business volunteers, and an active Advisory Board led by industry professionals.  • Each year, NAF serves more than 50,000 students in approximately 500 Academies across the United States.

Why Choose the National Academy of Finance (NAOF) at CHS • The NAOF provides a pathway to higher education which will lead to employment in the fields of finance, business management, logistics, financial and business law, and international career opportunities. • Students enrolled in the NAOF will experience a challenging academic curriculum that prepares them for college and careers in one of the most lucrative industries in the United States.

  4. What does the National Academy of Finance offer students at CHS? • Students will be able to combine a CTE completer program with the University of Maryland entrance requirement—known as dual completion. • Students will be prepared to continue their education and will leave high school with skills which will make them more attractive to employers. • While in high school, students will be able to practice those skills in internships with local businesses and corporations and potential employers.

  5. Chopticon National Academy of Finance students are: • Honor students enrolled in advanced placement classes • Actively involved in school and community activities • Goal oriented with plans to continue their education in a college or university

NAOF Course Offerings at Chopticon • Principles of Finance/Applied Finance, CM (10th) • Principles of Accounting 1/Managerial Accounting, CM (11th) • Internship(six to eight weeks/rising senior) • Financial Planning/Financial Services (12th) • Business in Global Economy/Business Ethics, CM (12th) • Program Electives • Computer Applications in Financial and Data Management • Financial Mathematics • Business Law • AP Economics • Foundations of Computer Science • Computer Web Development

NAOF Internship Experience The internship is an opportunity for students to: • Apply classroom learning in real world settings • Prepare to transition into a career • Explore career options • Acquire college references • Network for future career positions • Gain an edge in the job market • Gain confidence and experience

  8. What authentic learning experiences does the NAOF provide for students? • Opportunities to develop leadership, personal growth, and career development skills by participating in a Career Technology Student Organization (CTSO) such as Chopticon’s award winning Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) organization. • Opportunities for students to attend the Business/Career Expo. and to compete for academic scholarships and awards such as the National Financial Capability Challenge.

What authentic learning experiences does the NAOF provide for students? • Opportunities to develop the transferable skills (analytical, technical, presentation, higher-order thinking, problem solving, and communication) that are paramount to college and career success. • Opportunities to work with a skilled and knowledgeable Program Advisory Council (PAC) on the required senior capstone project.

Program Advisory Council (PAC) Industry Partnerships • The PAC is a collaboration between the school system, businesses, community, post-secondary institutions, and government leaders. • The PAC is the avenue used to connect the real world to the classroom and to offer students an industry validated interdisciplinary curriculum.
