Swiss Urgent Action Plan for Tackling Primary HIV Infection

The Swiss Urgent Action Plan addresses the critical issue of Primary HIV Infection (PHI) and its role in the transmission of HIV through networks of sexual partners. Acknowledging that safer sex practices are the most effective way to prevent transmission, the plan proposes targeted actions: a national campaign to reduce community viral load, decreasing the time from infection to diagnosis, and ensuring no transmission after diagnosis. Together, these actions aim to break the chains of PHI while complementing ongoing prevention efforts.

  1. The Swiss Urgent Action Plan (MSM) Steven Derendinger, MA

  2. It’s about Primary HIV Infection (PHI) • HIV spreads mainly though chains of PHI among networks of parallel sex partners (steady and sex-buddies). • Safer Sex still remains the best way to prevent transmission during PHI. • Test & Treat is not efficient to prevent transmission during PHI. Yet it is an important complementary answer.

  3. Where do you stand in this network?

  4. The Swiss Urgent Action Plan • Action field 1: • Reduce the community viral load by breaking the chains of PHI with a yearly one month national campaign (Break The Chain). • Action field 2: • Reduce time from infection to diagnosis to 12 months. • Action field 3: • No transmission after diagnosis.
