  2. 2004 Diversity Accomplishments This presentation shows some of the work APA has done in the past year to: • Elevate the work of minorities; • Focus on issues of relevance to minority populations; • Recruit, retain, and better serve minority members.

  3. 2004 Diversity Accomplishments Membership and Recruitment: • Appointment of a Diversity Task Force to plan Diversity Summit II, and make recommendations on minority recruitment. • AICP Minority Pass Rate study with the help of the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

  4. 2004 Diversity Accomplishments Membership and Recruitment: • Creation of Diversity Internship – a new opportunity for talented student to tackle significant projects to advance our efforts. • Formation of the Indigenous Planning Division. • New Diversity listserv - an active tool for communications among members.

  5. 2004 Diversity Accomplishments Components of APA: • PBCD – Scholarship event at conference • PBCD – APA listserv active • SRC – diverse current leadership

  6. 2004 Diversity Accomplishments Publications - Web: • Online reader on Affordable Housing • Diversity web portal under construction: “The New Face of Planning” available Summer 2005.

  7. 2004 Diversity Accomplishments Publications - Planning Magazine: • “Racing Toward Diversity” – February 2005. Steve Chambers tells the story of two New Jersey towns where racial balance is a mission. • “Up Close: Ted Jojola” – February 2005. APA's newest division chair, of the Indigenous Planning Division.

  8. 2004 Diversity Accomplishments Publications - Planning Magazine: • “Affordable Housing in an Unaffordable Region” – January 2005. How local nonprofits are helping Bay Area residents cope with a shortage. • “When Loans Become a Lifeline” – December 2004. As federal funding for community development slows to a trickle, a Minneapolis organization, the Community Reinvestment Fund, steps in to fill the gap

A project shows the many benefits — and complications — of brownfield redevelopment. • “Planners Library” – July 2004. Review of The Dignity of Resistance: Women Residents' Activism in Chicago Public Housing.

Communities are using housing receiverships to save neglected properties. • “2004 National Social Advocacy Award” – April 2004. Awarded to the Lapham Park Venture, Milwaukee. The city's most vulnerable residents gain access to a full range of health care and other services
