Ms. Vandor White it Out!!!! Liquid Paper Bette Nesmith Graham
Have you ever made a mistake on an important school paper? • Well if you have, you better thank Bette Nesmith Graham for inventing Liquid Paper; or White Out (which was originally called Mistake Out!)
Graham’s history… • Graham invented White Out in Dallas after WWII. • She was a single mother raising her son. • She did not become “rich” or really successful until the mid 1950’s and 1960’s.
But WHY did she do it? • She needed to support herself and her son • She became a typist and needed a way to correct her errors
So, how did she do it? And how did she become so successful? • With her very own kitchen blender! • Water-based paint • On her own: “Money is a tool, not a solution to a problem.” • Without her boss knowing! • Turned her kitchen into a lab! • He boss eventually found out and fired her! • She had all the time to spend working on her new company! • With the help of family, her business grew…
AND GREW….. • By 1967 her business was a million dollar business!! • 1968 she sold 1,000,000 bottles of White Out!
What would we do without her? • Graham is the BEST inventor because: • Without her, we would not be able to fix all of our mistakes!!! • She was confident and self-motivated. She never gave up, even when her boss fired her! • She started two foundations to help women find new ways to earn a living for themselves!
In conclusion… Awesome job Bette! We would be a world of errors if it were not for you!
