  1. Chapter 2Section 2Properties of Equality

  2. Addition Property • If a = b and c = d, then a + c = b + d.

  3. Subtraction Property • If a = b and c = d, then a - c = b – d.

  4. Multiplication Property • If a = b, then ca = cb.

  5. Division Property • If a = b and c = 0, then a = b . c c

  6. Substitution Property • If a = b, then either a or b may be substituted for the other in any equation (or inequality).

  7. Reflexive Property • a = a

  8. Symmetric Property • If a = b, then b = a.

  9. Transitive Property • If a = b and b = c, then a = c.

  10. Properties of Congruence

  11. Reflexive Property • DE @ DE or <D @ <D

  12. Symmetric Property • If DE @ FG, then FG @ DE. • If <D @ <E, then <E @ <D.

  13. Transitive Property • If DE @ FG and FG @ JK, then DE @ JK. • If <D @ <E and <E @ <F, then <D @ <F.

  14. Distributive Property • a(b + c) = ab + ac
