  1. UPLIFTby Natalie Walter The sub-genre of Uplift contains stories about advanced civilizations helping or interfering with civilizations that are less advanced. In an uplift story, an advanced alien race might give technology to a primitive culture, changing their lives and reality forever. Uplifting can also mean making a species more biologically advanced. For example, humans giving animals bigger better brains. Uplift authors like to imagine that we could give other species or cultures advanced intelligence. Movies: Planet of the Apes (people giving apes super intelligence)

  2. Flowers for Algernonby Daniel Keys Flowers for Algernon is a classic Science Fiction book that remains popular to this day. Plot: -A man named Charlie with a cognitive disability is given an operation to increase his IQ -His journey mirrors the journey of a lab mouse (Algernon) who has undergone the same operation. -Charlie eventually becomes smarter than the doctors who operated on him. -Charlie eventually becomes depressed and isolated because no one on earth is as smart as he is. He feels alone. This is an example of Uplift because humans have given another being advanced intelligence.

  3. Uplift: Visual Representation In this book cover, there is an advanced species of alien standing over a primitive looking pair of humanoids. Clearly, the aliens plan is to make contact. It’s probable that they will help the primitive species to become more advanced.
