  1. Creating a Lesson with SoftChalk LessonBuilder Laura M. Carrizales October 17, 2010 EDTC 3332

  2. Needs Assessment: • The problem for the proposed training is that, the teachers at San Benito Veteran’s Memorial Academy are not being creative with their instructional lessons. The teachers need to be more creative with their lessons, by using technology.

  3. The analysis of the gap between what is available and what should be available • At this campus there are two state of the art computer labs that are not being utilized effectively. These computer labs are and should be made available to the students to use. This training will allow the teachers to create computerized lesson where the students can do some interactive lesson to enhance the teachers instruction.

  4. The recommended solution for filling the gap. • With this training the teachers at San Benito Veteran’s Memorial Academy will be able to create lessons on the computer to help enhance their lessons and also to help motivate their students; since students love to use technology.

  5. Instructional Goal: • After completing this training, the learners will learn how to use SoftChalk LessonBuilder. • After completing this training, the learners will be able to create interactive quizzes within their lessons.

  6. Performance Objectives: • Using SoftChalk LessonBuilder (CN), the learners will create a webbased lesson (B) with 90% accuracy (CR). • Using SoftChalk LessonBuilder (CN), the learners will create interactive quizzes within their lessons (B) with 100% accuracy.

  7. Using SoftChalk LessonBuilder (CN), the learners will create a webbased lesson (B) with 90% accuracy (CR). Assessment of Learning Outcomes:

  8. Using SoftChalk LessonBuilder (CN), the learners will create interactive quizzes within their lessons (B) with 100% accuracy. When creating an interactive quiz for the lesson you must go to which tab on the toolbar a) tools b) edit c) insert Assessment of Learning Outcomes:

  9. Learner Characteristics: • Target audience are San Benito Veteran’s Memorial Academy teachers. • Age group range from 21 – 60 years of age • Their level of computer literacy range from very little to advance • Teaching background range from 1st year teachers to retire/rehire • Educational background range from Bachlors to Masters degrees

  10. Learning Context: • This training will show the teachers at San Benito Veteran’s Memorial Academy how to use SoftChalk LessonBuilder to create interactive lessons to help enhance their instructional lessons. This training will also show them how to develop different types of quizzes and assessments.

  11. Learning Context cont. • This training will take place in one of two state of the art computer labs at San Benito Veteran’s Memorial Academy, this training will also be available online so that the teachers can be able to access it from anywhere when needed as a refresher or resource.

  12. Training Module Outline: Introduction: SoftChalk LessonBuilder is an amazing ‘web lesson editor’ that allows you to create interactive lessons. SoftChalk LessonBuilder is an educational tool that can be used by just about anyone, it can help classroom teachers enhance their lessons and at the same time it helps stimulate the students learning. We all know that students love to use technology, by using SoftChalk LessonBuilder both the classroom teacher and the students will benefit from it. After completing this training, the learners will learn how to use SoftChalk LessonBuilder. After completing this training, the learners will be able to create interactive quizzes within their lessons.

  13. Training Module Outline: Identification of the Problem: The problem for the proposed training is that, teachers need to be a bit more creative with their lessons, and new technology is not being utilized effectively; it seems that it is just a waste of time and money. However, we must expose the students to as much technology as possible. Furthermore, the educator can enhance their lessons by using SoftChalk LessonBuilder, a lesson can be created very easily which can be used to reinforce or reteach.

  14. Training Module Outline: Description of the Proposed Solution: The proposed solution will be to introduce SoftChalk LessonBuilder to the teachers at San Benito Veteran’s Memorial Academy. I will create a computer/web-based training module on the use of SoftChalk, this training will be a step-by-step training. This training will consist of developing the lesson, creating pop quizzes, and much more on SoftChalk LessonBuilder. By creating lessons on SoftChalk LessonBuilder the learners will be motivated to learn by using these interactive lessons.

  15. Instructional Resources: The learners will need the following to complete the training • A desktop computer or laptop computer • Access to the internet • SoftChalk LessonBuilder • Their own instructional lessons

  18. Training Module Blueprint:

  19. Formative Evaluation: • The formative evaluations that I will use will be the small group evaluation and the subject matter expert evaluation. • For the subject matter expert evaluation I will ask one learners to submit their interactive lesson to one of the educational technology instructors for evaluation and feedback. • For the small group evaluation I will ask the learners to break into groups and evaluate one of the interactive lessons and provide feedback.

  20. Summary The teachers at San Benito Veteran’s Memorial Academy will attend the SoftChalk LessonBuilder training which will be conducted at San Benito Veteran’s Memorial Academy library computer lab. The teachers will learn how to create an interactive lesson using SoftChalk LessonBuilder. This training is a computer web-based training on the use of SoftChalk LessonBuilder which is a ‘web lesson editor’; this will help the teachers from San Benito Veteran’s Memorial Academy enhance their lesson. Using SoftChalk LessonBuilder will help stimulate the students learning by using the interactive lesson; both the teacher and the students will benefit from this training.
