6th Grade • Yearbook pictures (parent form for the yearbook will be coming soon!) • Kindle, Nook, etc. (or other e-reader) • Parties! • Gym stuff
6th grade procedures • Check website for homework if absent. Website will be updated regularly, however homework section may not be updated. • Students are unable to call home for homework, instruments, lunches, projects, etc. • Effort to create independence and self-responsibility
Homework • About 60 minutes of homework per night on average • Math HW nightly • Read 20 minutes every night • 1 Reading Response per week (RRJ) • Social Studies and Science HW 1-2 nights per week • Missed HW-students sign log. Can miss 2 HWs and still get a Proficient (P).
RELAReading and Language Arts • Read independently every day • 25 Book challenge • Read at least one novel per marking period as a class or in literature circles. • Writing is mainly non-fiction/research based (preparation for EPA) • Writer’s notebook • Focus on presentation skills • RRJ folder
Math • Middle School Math • Pamphlet can be found on class website • Classzone • Will register for home access to book during computer time
Social Studies • Study Ancient Civilizations • Marking Period 1 (Archaeology, Mesopotamia) • Marking Period 2 (Ancient Egypt) • Marking Period 3 (India and China) • Marking Period 4 (Mesoamerica) • District Midterm and Final • Link with literature to units of study (specifically MP 2)
Elementary Performance Assessment • Information to come as the year progresses • Basic outline- 3 day assessment • Day 1- Come up with question and research • Day 2- Write paper and complete visual • Day 3- Present
Conferences Student-led conference or Traditional conference?
7th Grade Placement • Follow guidelines set-forth by 7th grade teachers • Students are placed based on current performance, not potential • General guideline example for 7th Grade Honors Recommendation for Math: student has 94% average or above all marking periods, strong work ethic, highly motivated, responsible, excellent problem solver, organized, independent worker, requires minimal assistance after a concept is taught
