  3. Area 3 Vega Baja In the Vega Baja, the historical record contains references of damaging events reaching EMS98 intensity VIII reported at Orihuela (the most important nucleus of population in historical times) in the years 1048, 1482, and 1673. The strongest in the region occurred in 1829 and it is known as the Torreviejaearthquake, on March 21, 1829. This is the main shock in a seismic sequence of at least 42 events occurring from 1828 to 1830 with EMS98 intensities reaching IX–X. During the instrumental period (early in the 20th century) the strongest event was the 1919, mbLg5.2 Jacarillaearthquake.

Historical heritage severely affected, including old churches and medieval wall towers. Reached intensities EMS98 VI-VII causing damage and economic losses in several towns in the region.

  6. Iref estimates (highest intensity values with exceedanceprobability not less than 10% in 50 years) obtained at the main municipalities in Area 3
