The University Council of Modern Languages (UCML) was established in 1993 as an overarching national organization representing modern languages, linguistics, and cultural studies in higher education across the UK. UCML advocates on behalf of over 100 departments and subject associations, addressing issues such as language teaching, research, and policy-making. They provide essential data and engage with government bodies to shape language education policies.
