  1. Food Combining? Using nutrition science to answer the controversy….

  2. Principles: Body Ecology Diet • Eat fruits alone on empty stomach • Natural sugars cause the growth of yeast • Mix Non-Starch Vegetables with Meat or Vegetables with Grains or other Carbs but not both. How would natural sugars promote overgrowth of yeast? How would eating them alone make any difference?

  3. Principles: Body Ecology Diet • Eat protein foods with non-starchy veg and / or “ocean vegetables” • Protein makes stomach secrete acid • Carbohydrate makes stomach secrete ptyalin which is alkaline • Non-starchy vegetables digest well in acid Ptyalin is another name for salivary amylase which is inactivated by stomach acid… So how does this work???

  4. Principles: Body Ecology Diet • Eat Grains / Starchy Vegetables with Non-starchy Vegetables • Specifies using “ancient grains” of amaranth, quinoa, buckwheat and millet as they are gluten-free. Buckwheat is not related to wheat, and is technically not a cereal or grass. It is generally considered safe in gluten-free diets.

  5. Other food combining strategies… • Do not combine acid with alkaline as it causes putrefaction • Ex: No acid fruits with alkaline meats All proteins are denatured in stomach acid. Acidic fruits actually help with iron absorption from meat.
