Career Development Events. The FFA’s way of saying COMPETITION!. CDE. A Career Development Event is a competition that is held at the state, regional, or national level. It’s purpose is to prepare you for a career through competitive contests. Some are done individually, some in teams.

  2. CDE • A Career Development Event is a competition that is held at the state, regional, or national level. • It’s purpose is to prepare you for a career through competitive contests. • Some are done individually, some in teams.

  3. Types of CDEs Job interview Parliamentary Procedure Forestry Dairy Handling Floriculture Creed Speaking Prepared Speaking ... plus many more! Extemporaneous Speaking Environmental and Natural Resources

  4. What do you do? • Depending on the competition, you could be doing: • Interviews in front of judges • Sampling • Hands on demonstrations • Research presentations

  5. The HANDSHAKE! Ever had an encounter with a person and you shook their hand? Did they barely squeeze? Or did the almost break your hand? Let’s practice.

  6. How do I get to Nationals? • Nationals is an amazing place, but only select few get there! • You must win the competition at the state level before you can advance to the national level.

  7. Activity • Get together in groups of 3-4 and discuss a CDE that your group would like to do. Remember to keep in content-specific (Animal Science does Animal Science stuff while Nat. Resources/Enviro does Nat. Resources/Enviro stuff) • Review the sheet of CDEs to assist you.

  9. Greenhand FFA Degree For first year members Knowledge of FFA History Recite the Creed Recite the Motto Recite the Salute Must be enrolled in Agriculture Ed. Have satisfactory SAE plans

  10. Chapter FFA Degree Completed 2 semesters of Agriscience classes Have SAE program in operation Earn and productively invest $150 or work at least 45 hours at SAE Effectively lead a group discussion for 15 minutes Demonstrate 5 parliamentary procedures

  11. State FFA Degree Active FFA member 2 years 2 years of Agriscience classes Earn and productively invest $1000 or work 300 hours in an SAE Program Perform 10 parliamentary procedures Give a 6 minute speech

  12. American FFA Degree Highest degree Active member for 3 years 3 years of class Graduate from high school at least 12 months prior to receiving degree Outstanding SAE Program

  13. Pair Work Get together in pairs and compile a list of requirements that are the same for all 4 degrees using the Venn Diagram sheet. After that, right down any questions you might have about FFA.
