  3. Survey and predict T-P-S • What classic dog stories have you read? How many can you name? • Survey the book • Do you predict that we will be reading another dog story? • What do you think the tone of this novel will be? What makes you think this? • Is a cast of characters something you expect to see in a novel?

  4. Narrators T-P-S • When we talk about the narrator of a story, what do we mean? • Think back to all the stories you have ever read. Does every story have a narrator? • Is a narrator the same thing as an author?

  5. Excerpts in your Student Edition, Cycle 1 Day1 • T-P-S • Which excerpt has an internal narrator? How do you know? • Have you read stories with more than one internal narrator? • How might changing narrators affect the telling of a story?

Why or why not? • How does Rachel feel about acting and drama? • With Rachel as narrator, the reader sees Wallace Wallace from a different point of view. How does Rachel see Wallace Wallace?

Reflection # heads • Wallace says, “For me, honesty wasn’t just the best policy; it was the only one.” Do you think Wallace is overreacting? • When you are asked your opinion about something, do you always say how you honestly feel? Why or why not? • Is it always safe to tell the truth? • Vocab practice.
