  2. A Towel In My Hand 1 It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.

  3. A Towel In My Hand 2 The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;

  4. A Towel In My Hand 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

  5. A Towel In My Hand 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” (John 13:1-7)

  6. A Towel In My Hand • It seems that we are always in a hurry! • It takes time to walk with God! • The First Commitment as Christian...is Worship! • All that happens in life is our worshipful response to God and God’s revelation.

  7. A Towel In My Hand • The Second Commitment as a Christian…is Our Walk • We cannot walk with a God that we don’t worship! • We have to walk with God! That’s life changing!

  8. A Towel In My Hand • The Third Commitment as a Christian is Our Work • In order to work with God we have to worship and walk by faith. • This is the progression. • Worshiping • Walking

  9. A Towel In My Hand • Working with God • The progression will lead us to a new dimension whereby we come to give instead of take. • Jesus had the hardest time teaching this to his disciples.

  10. A Towel In My Hand • John writes that Jesus broke bread with the disciples. • 4“so he got up from the meal” • The time of self-gratification is over. • “Dinner is over” • You have to know when to give blessings to some things.

  11. A Towel In My Hand • You have to know when to forget about some things in your life. • “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). • We’ve got to Give up to Go On!!! • He took off his outer clothing (John 13:4) • There are some things on you that you need to take off!

  12. A Towel In My Hand • If you are going to work for God you must understand... • You cannot work for Him with your own agenda. • You cannot work for Him with your own pride. • You cannot work for Him with your own glory. • You must become a servant.

  13. A Towel In My Hand • 4 Then He wrapped a towel around his waist • Anyone can wash the feet of someone who loves them. • Can we be disciplined enough to serve all types of people?

  14. A Towel In My Hand • Or is it just the ones we like? • Let’s be the church Jesus died for and care for those who everyone else has forgotten. • 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31 NIV)

  15. A Towel In My Hand • So anytime you’re in a cave situation and you want to get out... • You have to take off your outer clothes and wrap a towel around your waist. • Elijah left the family business to do whatever he could for the ministry.

  16. A Towel In My Hand • There came a point where Elijah asked Elisha what He wanted. • He said a “double portion of your spirit” (2 Kings 2:9). • Elijah said you asked a hard thing.

  17. A Towel In My Hand • WE can fulfill our church’s ministry: • God is not satisfied with us walking around without a towel. • For some of us it’s service. • For others it’s teaching. • For others it’s giving financially.

  18. A Towel In My Hand Jesus said, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. (John 13:14) NIV • He wants to use you! • Supper for some of you is over. • If you get into the place where you’re supposed to be, God’s grace will fall on you!
