  2. Language In the Greek alphabet there are only 24 letters. Most words we speak come from Greek. Bicycle comes from the two words - bi and kyklos - which means two wheel in Greek.

  3. Food Some Greek foods are enjoyed all over the world. A lot of Greek people eat baklave made from phyllo for dessert. In Greece the most popular cheese is Feta cheese.

  4. History In World War Two, Italy first attacked Greece, but Greece defended themselves. Then Germany attacked Greece and then Greece lost the war. Greece’s most popular period is The Golden Age. In 336 B.C. Alexander the captain of the Greek army, defeated a huge area between Greece and India.

  5. Holidays One of the most important holidays in Greece is Easter. On the midnight of New Year’s Eve, people eat a special cake with a coin in it called vasilopitta. On Ochi Day people remember that in 1940, Greece’s leader said “ochi” (no) to the Italian dictator.

  6. Sports You know how there are Olympics every once and awhile. Well, the Olympics came from Greece, and Greek Olympics started in 776 B.C. Marathons also came from Greece. In Greece soccer is the national sport, but it is called football.

Interesting Facts These are the Greek letters, alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, kappa, lambda, mu, nu, xi, omicron, pi, rho, sigma, tau, upsilon, phi, chi, psi, and omega. In ancient Greek, Zeus was the king of the gods. Greece is on the continents of Asia and Europe.
