Chapter 33 Summary • Fogg is on a boat headed to London to get on the train and go home. • While Fogg is on the boat Captain Speedy gets mad at him for over working the vessel. • A vessel is like a boat or ship. • So Fogg got off the boat and he headed toward the train station. • Then he was accused and put in jail.

Chapter 34 Summary • Fogg had been thrown in jail by Fix. • Fix suspected that he stole 55,000 pounds. • Fogg was in jail for three days and on the 80th day at 11:00 a.m. was let free. • The train home had already left! “He had lost his wager.” • He orders a train to come pick him up to carry him home.

  6. Cultural Nuances Pounds are what British people call their money. This is a picture of their money/pounds. Fogg was thrown in jail with no proof. He was only suspected. This is a picture of an 1870’s jail.

  7. Amount of Money Spent • Fogg was suspected of stealing 55,000 pounds. • Fogg gave 60,000 pounds to Captain Speedy because he burned the vessel in his ship. The vessel was worth 50,000, but he gave him 60,000.

Important Things about the Characters. • All throughout the book Fogg has been very calm, and has not had a very bad temper. • Passepartout seems very loyal. • Fix seem rough and tough, but he seems kind of cowardly in a way. For example: • “’ Sir,” he stammered,” sir-- forgive me-- most-- unfortunate resemblance-- robber arrested three days ago– you are free!’”
